Hey All

I am installing a fuse panel and relay on my IS. This is the same unit I had on my Standard, which I had no problems installing last year. After some time searching, I found (thanks MP!) the accessory power out. I hooked everything up between the relay, accessory out, battery, and fuse panel and nothing would turn on.

Today I hooked the relay directly to the battery (rather than the accessory out) and everything turned on as it should.

Next I checked the voltage coming from the accessory out. I was only getting 5 volts. I thought maybe someone had wired into this line and some lights were drawing off the voltage, so I tried starting the bike and rechecking. Still only 5 volts.

I pulled the accessory fuse thinking there was something wrong with it, cleaned it, and reinserted it into the panel. Rechecked and still only 5 volts.

I then pulled the fuse and rechecked the accessory out (it should NOT be working with the fuse out, obviously) and it still read right at 5 volts. WTH?

I also checked the voltage at the fuse panel (with the accessory fuse pulled out) with the key on, and it reads 12 volts as it should.

Any ideas here? This is a head-scratcher in my book...

Green is ground.

I think you're right that it's the wrong accessory plug (not the accessory plug at all), but it's not the ground or there would be zero volts (instead of 5V).

Inside a black boot, there should be a dark green wire with some small brownish spots/markings on it. That's your ground. The hot lead should be a real light green with a red stripe. That's what it is on my '98 Tourer.

In the wiring diagram, the IS accessory terminal hot wire is shown as a white and black stripe. The one I found that was putting out 5V is for the passenger push-to-talk switch.

My question is, where is that accessory terminal? I didn't have great light, but looked through all the wires and didn't see it. Anyone know off hand what it is near? Which harness?

Under the right side cover should be two plugs in a rubber boot one is the acc. wire and I'm not sure what the other one is any more. If you just using it to trigger the relay any circuit that is hot only with the key can be used. Seems like I used my fan circuit on mine as it is not used  very often unless the bike gets hot.

You dont have the honda foglights on your IS  do you  if so the acc terminals are being used  to power the relay for them  and they should be somewhere in front of your battery

I've been looking for them and still don't see them. I'll try searching in front of the battery now...

I don't have the fog lights. I do have wiring for trailer lights and extra LEDs on the back of the bike, but they're all tied in elsewhere.

What you're probably reading a backfeed current from the ground wire. I would guess that the fuse is bad or the tabs on the fuse are dirty. Replace the fuse and recheck the ACC terminal. I had this problem on my Wing with a loose connection. I was reading 5.4 V with the connector out of it's socket.

The wires nitro hooked to are for the CB passenger push to talk switch, that almost no one has.  The acc. wire is a different wire.

CB talk wire is red and the other is black.  On the IS, the hot Acc wire is white/blk strip, the ground is green.

That is why there is 5 volts, for the CB.  This is for if the passenger wants to be able to talk on the CB.

I found the right wires, finally. They were buried behind everything else and on the opposite side of the starter. It took me 15 minutes just to fish it out once I did find it. What a place to put them!
