I ride a 2000 valk tourer

FOR ANYONE WHO WAS CONSIDERING USING A CAR TIRE ON THEIR VALK. ALL I CAN SAY IS THIS.. I PUT A 195 50 16 ON MY 2000 TOURER. IT IS A DUNLOP DIREZZA LOW PRO. I JUST WAS CURIOUS HOW A LOW PRO WOULD BEHAVE AS OPPOSED TO A HIGHER PROFILE TIRE R55 OR R60. I AM SO HAPPY WITH THIS TIRE. THE FIRST ADVANTAGE IF IT WAS FOR A SMALL MAN OR A WOMAN IT LOWERS THE BIKE QUITE A BIT, MAKING IT EASIER TO FLAT FOOT ON THE GROUND AT LIGHTS AND SUCH. THE ROAD HOLDING AND SMOOTHNESS IS OF NO COMPARASON TO THE BUMPY RIDE I HAD WITH THE OEM, ESPECIALLY ON THESE TERRIBLE TEXAS BACK ROADS. AFTER 3000 MLES IT IS JUST GETTING BETTER AND BETTER. ABSOLUTELY NO SIGN OF WEAR YET. SURPRISINGLY MY MAIN CONCERN...CORNERING....TURNS OUT TO BE NO CONCERN AT ALL. THE HARDER I CORNER THE MORE THE TIRE DIGGS IN AND GRIPPS. RIDING IN THE RAIN IS A WHOLE NEW EXPERIENCE. THE INSECURE FEELING ON BENDS IS GONE. ONCE AGAIN IT JUST GRIPPS LIKE CRAZY. I HAVE ACTUALLY TRIED TO DRIFT THE BIKE, BUT IT JUST WONT DO IT. MY BRAKING IS NOTHING SHORT OF SPECTACULAR. TO THE POINT I JUST DONT USE THE FRONT BRAKE ANY MORE. JUST DONT NEED IT. THE TIRE RUNS SO MUCH QUIETER THAN THE STOCK TIRE. ALL AROUND JUST VERY HAPPY. IT TAKES A DAY OR TWO TO GET USED TO THE THINGS THAT WERE UNEXPECTED LIKE ON A CAMBERED OR PATCHY ROAD THE REAR FOLLOWS THE UNEVEN PARTS, BUT I LEARNED TO JUST IGNOR IT, AND NOW IT DOES NOT MATTER. SO FOR THOSE WHO ARE THINKING OF MAKING THE JUMP TO A CAR TIRE. JUST GO FOR IT. I THINK YOU WILL BE GLAD YOU DID

only thing i would say as a reply is dont just use the rear brake,, the front brake is about 60% of your stopping and if you just use the rear you will be changing pads quite often...

You have dual front disc brakes, use them.  OK, I wasn't gonna share this, but if it can keep you upright I will. I was in a panic situation not long ago on wet roads, overbraked (rear) and put my bike down. The rear tire kicked out on me, lowsided. Yes, it was a CT. My point is use those wonderful front brakes Honda has blessed you with. Wink

Not only USE the front brakes... but PRACTICE with them. Prcatice panic stops.  In all kinds of situations.  Because you WILL need them someday, and if you don't practice with them... your liklihood of going down skyrockets.

Glad you like the NMS tire.   Grin

I'm with the folks on the using the front breaks. There's no doubt in my mind you can stop well enough with just the back brakes but it's a bad habit to get into. The day will come when you need them both and won't have time to think about it and change your habit.. P.S. I'm going to look into that tire as I'm itching to go to the CT but a few more miles to go to justify it. Thanks for the info.

Anybody who just uses the rear break only, won't get to enjoy the long lasting car tire for very long.

If you don't use the front at all you will get out of the habit and lose 75% of your breaking power.

Saw a car tire VTX guy from Louisaiana try to panic stop behind a group on a car tire in the rain.

He was all over the place. Locking the brake and sliding and then locking it again to stop.

A lot of guys almost got creamed including Smokin Joe on that one because he would not use his front

brake in the rain. Nick named the guy Water Dog, man it was raining hard.

Cover em both, the brakes that is or you just might meet your maker a little before your time.

Big Ole Al

We are Al.  We're good people.  I just did 667 miles on a MC tire.  It's making whining noises in the corners.  I am already ready to slap a NMS tire on it.

Teh Dulop E-3's are the worst for that whining noise.

I have found that the Metz ME 880 odes not do that.

The tire I took off was pretty well worn down to the wear bars and it was not whining at all in the

corners.

Saty tuned he may not have been twisties rider.

Cobra on Gordon's bike is slightly cupped but I have not asked him about cornering noise.

teh Venom R on the Front of my interstate is not doing it and it's about to be replaced.

Just got my CT mounted on my spare rear wheel yesterday for $5 .  Maybe next weekend, I'll get in on the bike.... after I polish that nasty looking crud off the shiny parts  Cheesy

and as for braking, I've never had anyone admit they don't use the fornt brakes.  Maybe I'm slow, but it never occured to me to NOT use the front ones.  If anything, I'm more likely to over apply the front, and not use the rear enough.  I'm working on that Big Al.

Somwhere (over the rainbow) cause I never met these people learning to ride, but somwhere out there there are riders that just believe in back brakes.......they swear they dont need the fronts just downshift and use back brakes.

I wont ride with anyone I know to be of this philosophy, as this is why Judy is still in therapy to get the use of her hand back....the Harley rider that took us out when he lost control of his bike was taught to never use them front brakes.

So if a Car tire improves back brake performance thats just great...BUT....DONT SUBSTITUTE IT FOR PROPER USE OF THE FRONTS!!!  The fronts are still your primary and you are (as others have said) at risk for bad stuff if you forsake the dual life safers you have attached to the FRONT of your motorcycle

Yeah.  Ever wonder why they put TWO disks on the front and only one on  the rear?  Just think about it.  The engineers thought that under braking most of the weight and energy is being transferred to the front wheel and that is where they put the most brake.
