1 1/16 inch socket fits perfectly. Not sure of the mm size.

A 1 1/6 inch is too small and a 30 MM is too large. 

So I am guessing that it is a 28 MM.

I am running out to buy a set of larger MM sockets, I will post the results later.

Interesting that there are some many varied response, do the Valkyries vary that much by year, and model.

Mine is a 1998 Standard and the axle nut is 27 MM.

27mm is correct. 

A 1 1/16 should actually be a better fit, but you may need a 12-point rather than a 6-point socket.
