I tried doing search on this but can't seem to get the proper search string to work

What's your opinions? I just had my Valk go through a major servicing! Soup to Nuts if ya know what I mean. Is using high test the preferred fuel? I don't wanna skimp at this point. What to use what's best for the Valk!!

Use the lowest octane gas that will not cause the engine to ping. Anything more is a waste of money.

The Valk, without any mods, is made to run on regular (not mid, not hi-test) gas...

I've tried premium several times in the Valk..
..the only difference is it costs more.

Mine has had some serious mods in the engine and I still use 89 octane or if it is not available I use 87.  Ported, polished, relieved, forged pistions and etc.  Will still get 40+ mpg at 65, 70 it goes to 4377 real quick.   Hi-test will only give 38 best at 65..  Above 70, it is like 29........

Our 89 here is 10% alcohol, and no I do not see a difference in gas mileage vs the 87.   A lot of people say they do.........

BUT, we never built it for gas mileage anyway.

I believe our owner's manuals say 87 octane, which is regular around here.

If you are using an after market trigger wheel or the ECT mod described in the Shoptalk section (meaning you're advancing the timing as compared to stock) then midgrade could be advisable. You can't always hear pinging, better safe than sorry.
If you have a stock engine then no need for anything other than regular.

Thanks for all of the replies.

I know the fella who owned the trike before me said he always used high test. But being that I just got her back for a complete major servicing, I wanted to do the right thing and it seems regular is the way to go. I have no special performance mods on her and don't plan to add any. She's powerful enough!! The addition of the rake made a world of difference! Between the rake, progressive springs, having the carbs all serviced and re-synchronized along with a complete tune up & servicing, she's a completely different machine! When I take off with her now, she feels like she's being pulled. Talk about acceleration!

Thanks again for the replies!  cooldude
