They can't come thru the vent on an IS and up into the shield hard enough to smash them all over the wrong side of the polycarbonate can they?  Holy crap.  I never seen anything like that before.

Sheesh!

Better to be judged by 12, then carried by 6.

Its the fairing. Mine does it and so did the oem shield. Everytime I spit it flies forward and hit the shield. Ever notice guys with beards or big goatees seem to point forward? Cant tell you how many times when Kit ashes my shield pouches get covered!

But with enough force to SMASH bug guts all over the inside?  There is a big difference between the low pressure vortex, and bug SMASHING.

I think they get smashed when the come thru the vent and just end up on the windshield.  I use a piece of foam in the vent to keep rain from coming thru when I get caught in the rain.

Abosultely they can.  Can I recommend a simple fix.  I took some screen mesh (screen door mesh) and glued it to the underside of the small vent under the wind screen.  No one can see it and it keeps the bugs out.  Might take a little patients, but with over 100 K on my last interstate I ate on bug.

I didn't notice getting hot with any... but that's a good idea Charlie.  I'll think about doing that.

I still can't see the physics involved... but that doesn't preclude the fact that it HAPPENED.  Smiley

I was very confused too last month when I bought my IS. I was cleaning the outside and was surprised to see that the bugs weren't washing off.

Get used to it....they come thru the vent...and some of those bug guts are pretty tasty.

Grass hoppers do not taste good at all and make the biggest mess.

Bugs are nothing. Last year my wife and I were out for a ride, going down some nice 2 lane roads around a nice recreation area. All of the sudden my wife says something hit her on her knee and it hurt. I stopped in a parking lot. She had blood up her leg, and I had it all over my back. We found the remains of a hummming bird stuck by the rear shock Shocked

On the trip at some point he hit a good sized Blue Jay and had this damage appear a

few days later.

May not be realated but his fork seal started leaking soon after.

I picked up bird strikes twice and broke the plastic on my bakers both times.  I fixed it by making stainless panels. (it cost less than the replacements from Baker.)   cooldude hoser

I ride a standard with a rifle windshield. No faring, no vent and I still get bug guts on the inside of the shield. After riding home from the boondocks at "deer thirty" I seem to be looking through pizza topping by the time I get home. Sweet!

A piece of 2"x2" foam pushed up the vent from the front keeps bugs out and rain too. cooldude

I heard those bugs get all caught up in the jet-wash when you get passed by a fast black Valkyrie and the turbulence mashes them up the inside of the windshield and all over your back, too.  2funny Wink
