I'm getting close to needing a new rear tire and would like to try a car tire..........but.........I have never taken the rear tire off myself and am not comfortable trying it by myself.  I have not checked with the Honda dealer I use, but I can only assume they won't do it because of liability.
Does anyone know where I can go  (I am in central Illinois) to find someone experienced with the Valkyrie/Darkside conversion??  I am more than willing to pay to have this done, but I want someone who knows Valks and who has done this before.

JoeValkIS may be willing to help you.  He is located in St. Louis.  I am going to put a new front tire on my bike next Saturday at Murdoc's in Dayton, OH.  You could ride over and we would help/show you how to do it.

That is a really great offer and I really appreciate it.  I'm in the process of checking with the boss to see if we have anything next weekend.  Dayton is only about 4 hours away.  Are you sure you would have time for this?  What tire should I buy?  Is there anything else I would need?

If you are serious about coming, send me a note using private message and I will give you my cell number so we can talk about it. A lot of people are using and really liking the Goodyear Assurance Triple Tread, but everyone has their own opinion of what is best.

Hey Dave,

Thanks for the vote of confidence...but...I am not dark side.  I pretty much know what needs to happen but I don't put tires on and I am not sure my local dealership will (I think at one time they did, but not sure about now).  Let me know if I need to check with them.

I would seriously look at tread compound. Some are from 300-6 or even 700. I like what I'm running now. It's a 460 compound. Soft enough to really grip  in the curves, yet with 14k miles, still looks new. And yes, I've recently checked the splines. Bridgestone Potenza g019 grid, 205-60-16.

And if ya wanna make the trip, I'll do the conversion for ya. Done a couple now. And the local shop charges $15. for the changeout. I do the labor and take them the tire and rim.

I want to thank you all for your kind offers.  I have sent each one of you a personal message, but none of them show up as sent when I go back to check......................have you received them or am I doing something wrong??

I usually just soak up all of everyones knowledge reading the tech board.............pretty much a klutz doing anything else.

Did you have to do the nut cage mod for this tire?

Bridgestone Potenza g019 grid, 205-60-16. I just installed one of these tires about 800 miles ago and it is one of the best CTs I've ran and I'm very happy with it. It is the  first Bridgestone tire I've ever ran. I got it at the tirerack shipped to the house in one day 108 dollars total.
