ok guys. had to buy a tire last minute at the honda stealer before a bike rally (same day). It was a basic dunlop I think non-radial not elite.... now I need a rear tire I alwas wanter to buy avon cobras but now that I have the dunlop on I dont know how that will affect the ride. AND if I stay with dunlop do I go with the basic dunlope for the rear or go with the radial elite dunlop?

I have no experience in this area and I have already spent the cash on the front dunlope basic. ( I think thats oem on my 98 tourer)

Thoughts???

Heck some of the crazy guys on here not only do not match the front and back motorcycle tires by brand name they are crazy enough to put car tires on one rim and a MC tire on the other!

I have mixed and matched Avon Cobra and Metzeler motorcycle tires more often than not.   I can never seem to get the front and rear to wear out at the same time.  So I buy whichever I need that is on sale.   Never noticed significant handling changes no matter what combo I have used.  I am not sure about  non-radial though I have never had one of those, but then again some run car tires!

I always hear that is not a good idea to mix radial and bias ply tires.

Check "tyre tips" on this site. http://www.motorcyclingkent.com
Looks marginal to run a radial on the rear and non radial on the front.

I have a Cobra 200 on the rear and a Dunlop Elite II Bias rear K-491 on the front.  Handles very well with no bad behaviors.  Though I have heard reports from others this might not be so good for triple digits.  I can count on one hand the times I've exceeded 100, so can't comment on that.  I will say, all that tread depth and aggresive pattern on the front, has kept the bike upright in some very slippery wet clay.  Or maybe other things like the pucker factor and lots of experience since the last time I got caught on wet clay, helped too.

Is the front tire reversed, or just as the arrow flies?

Better to be judged by 12, then carried by 6.

What you got hanging under the bike? looks like something big and round and another looks like a oil cooler or something.

Got a Bridgestone on the rear and a brand new Avon Cobra on the front. The Bridgestone being a Potenza g 019grid Car tire. No ill effects at all. Quite the contrary. The Cobra has a soft compound and grips ferrociously while the 019 propels her forward with all she's got and hugs every corner with ease and smooths out the rough places.
