Beautiful east Tennessee ( GOD'S Country )

« on: May 20, 2010, 04:16:29 PM »

Got a shot at cuttin' it green today from work and was home by noon the weather is nothing short of awesome right now here in God's Country with temps in the high 70's and sunshine. Stopped and had lunch at Captain Tom's BBQ just outside of Petros ,Tennessee. Captain Tom made the local news the other day over a sign he has at his business after I watched the news I told myself I need to give that man some business.

Needless to say what short time I was there I heard more than 20 people blow the horn as they drove by... ( Folks are fed up with it , its just that simple ) .

This is Captain Tom a really cool dude and you folks that plan to join us on The Memorial Weekend Ride to The Devil's Triangle and The Tree House this is where we will have lunch . For the record the BBQ was outstanding .

After leaving Captain Tom's it was time to hit The Devils Triangle.Shot below is " Brushy " it's Tennessee's oldest prison and one time home to James Earl Ray. Brushy is closed now and some claim they plan to turn it into a museum.

Hwy.116 the main part of The Devils Triangle and the 529 curves .

Hooked up with Lucky 13 this evening and we hit some of our favorite local backroads.Norris Dam this is TVA's first Dam and both Lucky 13 and my Grand-Father's help build it in fact Gordon's ( Lucky 13 ) Grand-Father was killed on site .

Finally got me a Devil's Triangle tee-shirt ....Back of shirt

 Front of t-shirt

Some bling.

You know Joe....I always took you for a born again dude......rough around the edges but a believer.  I could never put a sticker on my bike that said speak English or get the #*&# oout.  There was  a day I would have strongly disliked that sticker..... But things are so bad and getting worse I say go for it if thats your style.  The importance of the use of that particular word in that particular context pales in importance to the troubles our economy is headed for in part due to these illegals and the rest of the country is stuck playing political correctness, kissing their a$$es!!!!!  I say flame on anyone that doesnt think its Christian-like...but...they are helping to tear the country down so I say let em have it and tell them all to get out in the strongest language you can live with.......salute to you my friend.  Hope we get to ride together some day  cooldude

Friday 80% rain...77
Saturday 30 % rain...83

You should hold off a week Floyd and come join us the next weekend for " The Memorial Weekend Ride To The Devils Triangle And The Treehouse " .Ground zero is Knoxville Tennessee and the motel rate is very reasonable at $32.00 a night.

Chris,

I am sorry that language like the sticker on Joe's bike is offensive, BUT I must strongly agree with it. Let me preach on (sorry couldnt resist) My Wife of 20 years (this year) is German, born and raised in Germany and the first time she arrived in the States was in 1993 when I was stationed in VA. She spoke little to no English. We both went to DMV and when she went to take her drivers test she had the choice of taking the test in English or Spanish, now my question is, why if we are going to cater to other languages do they not offer the tests in all languages? Well needless to say my wife passed the test and got her license, even though her English was "not so good". But did she have a choice? NO, the DMV lady looked at me stupid when I asked her what other language choices they offered to foreigners, and her answer was none. Sounds a bit discriminating to me. Nowadays my Wife speaks English better than I, but to this day I do not see Billboards on the highway that read "Wir Sprechen auch Deutsch".
Sorry for the rant but I am sick of the fact that if you speak any other foreign language asides Spanish your F#$^d. Learn English if you want to live and work here.
Joe sorry for hijacking your thread, look forward to seeing you.

Peace out.

I agree that in America we should speak english.  But, I have been working in the Czech Republic since November 2009.  I will probably be here until summer 2011.  I don't speak Czech.  So, I am the foreigner they have to put up with.  Its a little different perspective.  I am working through getting long term visas for my family.  They don't give them away, either.  Funny being on the other side.

BTW, I saw a black valk a couple of times here.  I was riding the tram.  One of these days I will find out who has it.  I have seen it at the same bar a couple of times.  I am in Brno, CZ.

Since the conversation did get a little off the original topic...I will continue along this tangent just a bit farther.  I agree that English should be the official and only language for business conducted by our state and federal governments...I don't think that we should incur the expense of catering to non-English languages.  Yuri makes a good point...if you make an exception for one...why not the others?

That having been said, I actually like the diversity of other languages outside of our state and federal government.  Before moving back to TN, I lived most of my adult life in south Florida where Spanish is just as common as English (and if your are anywhere near Calle Ocho in Miami...there is very little English spoken).  The particular area of Fort Myers/Cape Coral where I lived for many years had a large German/Bavarian community...again this was not a problem for me...I thought it made the community interesting.  Through osmosis I learned to communicate with these people and very much enjoyed the culture...I still hear from many of these folks on a daily basis.

However as was stated by some earlier...if you want a driver's license.....you better be here legally and you better learn English!!

Chris,

Maybe I did misunderstand you, it sounded to me that the colorful language used was offensive to you, not the meaning of the statement. I was not trying to pick on you, but I do whole heartedly agree with the sticker, and the language used ist for my taste not strong enough.
Enough of that, again I was not trying to pick on you. Sorry Embarrassed

Well Joe.........I went to the dam lake, to get some dam water, near the dam. I saw the dam man and he told me he was a dam American that spoke dam American. He also said, he loved American dam women and had several dam chaps he was raising. So I got to thinkin, If you truly are dam American, then act like it. If you want to speak, act, and be other than dam American, then pack your bags and make a bee line for the nearest dam boarder. We want stop you from leaving this DAM country.

I think the BBq place @ joe's house should go nation wide with the sign. And it should never be sub-titled with any other text except "American". Next time I am in the hood, I'm  gonna get me some pig meat. cooldude

I remember a little from High School: son las ocho y media... that's right at least a couple of times a day  cooldude

Stanley, are you going on the treehouse ride?

-Mike

son las ocho y media...

It is 8.30 at night  ???   Is that right Mike ?

I think it means 8:30... if it means "at night" too, then it's only right once a day...

Here's another one I learned from Freak Brothers Comics... "otra cerveza"

I've never thought Joe was rough around the edges...I just thought he was from Tennessee.  Smiley

Where can I get some of them stickers Joe?  ???

Redline  Cool

I'll keep you in mind the next time I'm over at the bike shop I bought it at  cooldude

Wow!  Haven't heard mention of the "Fabulous Furry" Freak Brothers in many years.  That brings back a few memories......

Joe,
Every once in a while I play back the tape from 2006 (it was that long ago) when we visited that Dam and you told me the story about Lucky 13's and yours Grandfathers working the dam.  I believe we also talked about the Lake and the Baker who won the lottery and was losing all.  It was a great ride on the the Devil's Triangle and I believe it was just as beautiful a day then.

If everything goes my way this summer I may finally get closer to your area so I can get to ride more with you and the Southern Mountain Boys.  But for now I'll ride the Three Sisters here in the Hill Country of Texas.

I'm pretty sure in fact I'm 100 % sure that Big Al will not make this ride . He was here at my home today in his truck ( he hooked me up with some 380 ammo )  and the dude needs to take it easy plus they have him on blood thinner and " If " something was to happen on this  ride ...Well I don't even want to think about that. Another Harley will be in the ride just not our big buddy Big Al.I'm lookin' forward to this ride and sharin' the wind with y'all  cooldude   See you friday evening Paul I'm bettin' Al will drive over and have supper with us friday night at The Texas Roadhouse...Don't eat a late lunch come hungry  cooldude
