After installing new final drive and goodyear Assurance triple tread 205/60R16, tire rubs against drive shaft. Anybody know what I`m doing wrong?

Are you sure it is the swingarm/driveshaft? I thought mine was, but it was the nut under the fender. Can you slip a business card in between? If so, it will never rub.

Definately the driveshaft. Still on the jack.Is it possible it would clear after letting it down?

On the tech board he posted that he did the nutcage mod, but maybe he needs to ad some washers for the fender to be centered.

Up or down, I think it would be the same. Are you sure you installed/lined up the splines properly torqueing in the right sequence so that everything is seated properly? The 4 drive shaft bolts should be the last thing tightened.

I had done the nutcage mod too. I had to put a carriage bolt in from the fender side. Now, all is well.
I would lower it down, then try a business card, see if it will slip in there. On my 97, ONE business card barely goes. But, the tire NEVER hits.
I do not think I have heard of one hitting the swingarm, if all is properly installed. Yours may well be the exception though.

Washer mod would not help with swingarm rub. That moves the nut over.
Loosen it all up again, 4 bolts, axle nut. Just loose, not off. Spin the tire some. Kind of jiggle things. Then, tighten the axle nut tight. Then the 4 driveshaft nuts, taking care to tighten some, and keep moving around, to make sure they are centering. If still rubbing, then I have no idea what to do.

Yeah I hadn't seen he was sure it was the swingarm rubbing before I posted that.

Tried the sequence again and no different, but I notice it`s not rubbing the top half of the swingarm, just the bottom half where the swingarm wraps under the shaft and back up.

The only rub I have heard of, is where someone posted that there is a weld there, on the inside, and the welding stuck out some. He had to take a grinder in there, and smooth the weld off, down to level with the tube. That may be your problem.

If all else fails you can take the tire down to the local car tire shop and ask if they still true tires.
This is good for the ones you may have flat spotted on a car with a slide with brakes on.
Old Tire shops usually have these machines and take 0.050 thousnads off of the side tread rubber .
That should do it.
Or with the bike jacked up use a wood lathe tool and rest it on the swingarm and engage 2nd gear and trim away the excess just enough to clear.
But before you do all this loosen those pumpkin bolts once agian a try to align the problem away.
Any questions send them to Dark Lord PO Box Death Star .com.
It could be that your dark side sticker is not on right. IJS.

The weld seems to be the problem. It`s rusted and slightly flaking towards the tire. i`ll grind it off a little. Thanks for all the input.Let you know if that `s the fix.

Glad it worked out for you. 1/8" is a lot. I had one business card clearance, could not get two in there, and it NEVER rubbed. The tire just does not expand out that way. No matter the weight.
Congratulations!

Wow. On my '97 I can slip an 8mm allen wrench in between the swingarm and tire. Marty
