What is every one using to lube their cables? WD 40?
Thanks in advance

I haven't lubed my cables but WD 40 isn't a lubricant. It'll free up stuck things but evaporates away in 24 hrs. If it's used to get sticky things working again, it should be followed up by a proper oil or grease for the job.

I believe the Valks cables are teflon (or nylon) lined and do not require lube.

Someone confirm or deny that.

I have lubed my throttle and choke cables (all we have I think). They all worked a lot smoother and easier. I use an old product called "Cable Lube" with a pressure 'thingy' that forces the lube down the cables.

I learned about tri-flow riding bicycles...

I use the aerosol kind on the Valkyrie for stuff, including cable lube...

I got kind of stymied the first time I tried to lube my throttle cables till I asked around here (It was sort
of the same way Spoc noticed that Kahn was thinking "two dimensionally"... Wink )...

Anywho... I was told to protect the tank and loosen the handlebar clamp (the handlebars want to
swoop over and dent your tank if you don't take precautions) and slide the handlebars to the left.
Then there's enough slack in the throttle cables to easily get at the cable ends so you can put
lube down the casing. You're done when lube starts dripping out the bottom onto your
engine...

My throttle action went from awful (it actually stuck on at full lock) to great, has been that way for
a long time with no re-do... If you use WD or silicone spray, I bet a re-do would be needed pretty soon...

You be right. OEM cables have a nylon core and in most cases should not need lube. Unless it's spent years sitting outside and exposed to alot of dust.

Of course a good quality lube won't hurt unless it's very heavy and too much is used.

This is what I have been using for years on my bikes.  Both pedal and motor.
