We put on 368m sat. an 22 Dawg run stops but yesterday 12 m from hom home the sw. fell apart, I couldn"t get ther key in because the door busted up. I called a friend an he brung over some tools Phillips to get the crome cover off an common screwdriver ti get the crome cover off the sw. Then same screwdriver to get the crome part off thet is pressed into the lock an the door fell out. A 3/16allen to get the torx screws out that secure the lock to the frame and banged on the lock upside down and the junk fell out and we are ok to go. Butttt, Does any one know where I can just get a door to reinstall ?

I couldn't find anyone who could get/fix the little door, but a good local locksmith said
she could take the switch apart and get out the junk and put it back together (the loose parts
floating around in mine were making it hard to put the key in...)

A new ignition switch is pretty cheap but then you'd have more than one key. I got the whole
Tourer key set  for a little over $100 and rekeyed the whole flipping thing myself, way overkill, plus
a whole lot of fooling around with little locks...

I think you could buy a new ignition switch and a good locksmith could use the parts from it
to fix your old one so that you still were using the same key... but I didn't think of that before
I fixed mine...

Guess I'll scratch my head some.   Goofy low beams went out on a 180m run today.

I had the same problem a couple of years ago on my Standard. I didn't have anything small enough to get the loose pieces out, so I ended up walking a couple of miles home and coming back in my car.

I bought a new switch, but never installed it. I talked to a locksmith about re-keying the new switch to match the rest of the bike and he thought he could do it.

uglystupid2 Hey Gregk I had a similar problem with my ignition switch when I was gassing up .... I took the key out to open the filler cap and when I was done I could not get the damn key into the ignition switch ...... I has a paper clip handy and I found out ther was some plastic pieces inside the switch floting around .... I dug them out and was finally able to get the key in again and no more problems ..... is this what happened to you ?

Pretty much so. The key worked fine till that one time. As far Locksmiths rekeying a new lock to match the old one I believe it can be done but I would need a junk one to be able to tell. If some one has a junk one I'd pay the ship an report if it can be done. I believe all is required is to remove the security screw ,pull the guts an switch the pins around and even toss a pin. I have re-keyed some locks.
