Forgive me if this has been covered, but I have done a bit of searching and have not found it.  I have a 98 tourer and want to add a gas gauge.  Is there any reason I can't just add a fuel sending unit to my current tank?  How do they work?  if I can't just add the OEM one does anyone know of another easy option?  Also, do i have to use the Motosen's gauges or can I use ones from other companies?  Could I use stock harley gauges?
thanks

Yes to all the above.  Just match the gauge to the sender.  You will need to cut a hole in the bottom for the sending unit, and also weld on some bolts to attach it to.

What MP is saying is it's more trouble than it's worth with the Tourer or Standard tank. In addition, I'm not sure those smaller tanks are big enough for a sending unit. If you can find a tank off an Interstate, they are a larger tank and come with a sending unit as OEM, then all you'd have to do is buy a fuel gauge and match it to the sender. I've had an Autometer fuel gauge on my bike for about six years, it's the C2 model and is fully programmable which is what you'll need. That's because Honda's sender is set up backwards from the industry. Honda's are Full=0 ohms, Empty=90 ohms.

John Or Anyone else I guess I have put an Interstate tank & sender on my standard, & would like a fuel gauge. Can you please provide what type or better yet where to purchase the gauge. Thanks

Go to either the Motosens or Autometer website and find a dealer. You'll need one that is programmable to make it work with the Honda sending unit. Like I posted above, I've had the Autometer C2 series installed for about six years with no troubles. I believe they have a couple different programmable models, just have to go online and look. They don't sell direct, have to use a dealer. Autometer is good, but I think the Motosens units are less expensive...just have to research it.

Better to be judged by 12, then carried by 6.

This method is realativly inexpensive. He's working on a lighted one. He actually has another guy that wants one. Just not a rough as this one!
