I'm removing the front tire on my std in order to get a new tire mounted and install new brake pads.....got the brake calipers off and hinging nicely....removed the speedo cable, tucked away safely. When I attempt to remove the axle nut, the whole axle appears to turn. Am I supposed to secure the left side of the axle with a hex key (size?) or should the pinch nuts hold that side...... laugh All suggestions welcomed. Thanks.

I don't rely on the pinch bolts to do the job.get a 17mm hex socket from your local tool truck[snap-on, mac ,matco] this will also make tightening the axle to the correct torque spec much easier

First off, hopefully you had loosened the pinch bolts.  Not supposed to ride with parts loose on the bike!  Honda supplies the tool kit with the socket for that hex hole in your axle. The tool is the small end of the spark plug socket.  That's why they supply it. To aid tightening the nut and loosening the nut.  The pinch bolts are to allow the shock slider to adjust to the correct position and then tighten the pinch bolts down to secure that shock slider.  it is important to have the geometry of the front end (shocks) replaced back to original position to avoid damaging wear to the shock bushings and seals.
