I bought a 97 Valk with Cobra sis by six's on it.  The guy I bought it from "thought" the previous owner put a Cobra jet kit in also, but wasn't sure.  I just put the stock exhaust back on.  My question is,  Is there any way to tell if there IS a jet kit in the carbs without taking it apart?  Is it good to run a jet kit with stock pipes?  It seems to start a little harder than it should and smells a little gassy when warming it up in the morning.  Thanks.

These bikes come from the factory Jetted Lean, if it did have Needle or jet change that would be a plus, But how is Gas millage, The only way to really know is to inspect, but if it is jetted that just means your bike Cylinder temps will be cooler.

the cobra exhaust jet kit consisted only of new richer needles and slide springs. the main jets are not part of the kit and most likely where never changed $$$.  the cobra needles are adjustable. just pull them out, see shop talk and raise the clip one notch, 2 notches I believe will be too lean. the kit I tend to remember sets the clip at #3 position. move it higher and turn your idle mixture screws close 1/2 a turn. see how she runs.
or just get a set of oem needles, somebody should have a set for sale in the classifieds.
go to the tech section of factorypro.com great info on how to tune the three circuits of cv carbs.
