Indiana might be flat but

it has something going for it.
A big seller of red light cameras got so disgusted with Indiana that it recently removed its state legislator lobbyists, and gave up on the ticket scam!
Hammond and Gary, our cities that belong in Illinois, have been shot down on their revenue getters, the red light cameras.
Our legislators refused to make it legal to use red light cameras in our cities.
Common sense prevailed. less rear enders, less big fines because of the cameras, no more bonanzas by the insurance companies raising rates because of unfair tickets. Yeah, it gives the LEO's more to do (maybe) but it will be more fair than Big Brother camera spying. Most LEO's that I know rather catch the Bad Guys instead of cooling their heels watching for right turns on red without stopping.

I'm glad to hear that common sense has prevailed in Indiana. Ironically folks seem better able to understand the "Orwellian" nature of traffic camera's....but yet many don't seem to understand that this is simply one manifestation of our over reaching government's encroachment on our personal liberties.
I suspect that the reason many more folks understand this situation, is because "everyone" is subject to this intrusion...there are no exclusions such as with our "progressive" tax policy where 47% of the population are excluded. In this case, everyone is held accountable.
For the record...I would still be opposed, but not quite as vehemently opposed to ticketing by traffic cameras if they were capable of perfectly understanding the circumstances at an intersection. There have been many times (especially on a motorcycle) when I have slowed down considerably while passing through an intersection because other fast approaching traffic waits until the last possible moment to apply their brakes. In these cases I suspect through no fault of my own that I might have been flagged by the camera of having run a red light. On the other hand, if a real, live LEO is observing the situation...it may be possible to explain what happened. The problem the government has when it becomes a "profit making entity" is that "explanations" are not conducive to maximizing return on Investment (ROI).

Koodos to Indiana. the increase in rear enders should be enough to show anyone that those cameras are a bad thing.

I just don't see the cameras as much useful.
Here in Lafayette, people have figured out where they are and only slow down for those lights.
The cameras DID stop people from running the lights obnoxiously... but ONLY on the lights that have cameras.
My biggest problem with the cameras is the way they were allowed. They actually held a vote in Lafayette, CLAIMING that they were for running lights ONLY. 6 months AFTER they were installed, they started hanging signs saying they were red light AND speed enforced. There was no vote for changing them to speed.
It's the typical bait/switch.
"We're gonna stop people from running the lights!" Turns into "We need money, so now that you allowed us to install them, we're gonna up the ante whether you like it or not."
Bastards.

Indiana might be flat but . . .
Don't mean to hijack the thread, but
Southern Indiana has beautiful hills and great roads for scenic rides.
Just as Hammond and Gary are really part of Chicago, Southern Indiana is almost Kentucky (we even raise tobacco instead of corn).

Vanagon, a very good point, I should've said NE Indiana. I don't know how many times that I've enjoyed the hills and curves of southern Indiana, especially Highways 135, 58, 7, county Salt Creek Road, and many others. It was a real experience to ride to Brown County in 1948 on my Matchless thumper and enjoy those roads.
Yep, when you go from New Haven to Columbus Indiana it's like going from Kansas to Kentucky.
