I changed my jury duty twice last year due to business travel conflicts. They were very understanding and placed me on the next jury cycle. And then...the day before I was to go in, I called and found out the trial was settled out of court. AWESOME!!! Joe

There are ways out of jury duty...You just need to say the right thing, or the "wrong thing" If you know what I mean, you can be automaticaly "unselected".

Once you turn 70 you don't have to serve anymore. One of the very few benefits associated with the aging process.

Gee, I wanted to serve on a jury, but got rejected because I knew how to drive a tractor. Funny thing was, it was the wrong side that dumped me. It was a civil case, and from the prelim info, the driver had to be an idiot

I had jury duty last week. In Colorado they have provisions for vacation, working out of town and so on. They will just throw your nane in another hat and call you later. I vote you come to MI and play with the rest of us Bon. It would be good to see you again.

How can this happen?! I'm on call the entire month of July. I'm going to make one futile call can see if I can move the month to August. It'll never work but I have to try. Rats!! Bon, I got summoned in Jackson Co. just before I left for my summer ride last year and went in to the courthoused ahead of time and told them I would be out of town and they postponed my service til later. You should have no problem Clint

Being on call for a month sounds like Federal Jury Duty. I would think they will still make provisions for a change to a later time slot. You may have to visit your local Federal Building rather than the county courthouse.

Just went thru this. Work for myself. Works been slow but I had two jobs to complete and get paid for for that week. No problem. Several years ago, was called for jury duty for the conviction phase of a capitol murder scumbag. When I was interviewed the defense rejected me. Had an ex in-law was convicted of murder leaving behind two you sons and my sister. Another time, we were to close on our house. If we had to delay the closing our interest rate would have jumped from 5.125% to 5.5% costing us thousands of $$$$$$$. And if you have already taken off for vacation and made plans, I know here they will let you off. But gotta call ahead.

I get jury duty every 3 or 4 years, I'm sick of it. I have actually served on 3 jurys, and wasted days several other times. They let me off for a month last year after Inzane, because I had cancer surgery. I got called again before I even could go back to work during rehab! Told my cancer surgeon, he called up and raised hell with them, have'nt heard from them since. My wive and 35 year old son have NEVER been called. I'm done, I will not serve on a jury again. What are they gonna do, give me cancer? They can KMA. Hoser.

First, thanks for all the support! Yes, it's US District Court. It should be no surprise that there isn't a space on the form to request a delay or change of dates in the summons response. And, of course, there isn't a phone number with a human on the other end to talk to. I'm sure that they don't want to hear it. But, I added my request letter and sent it in with the official acknowledgement. I requested a delay of duty until august. Let the drum roll begin. . .

I"M OFF THE HOOK FOR NOW!! Whooho! I wrote a carefully crafted letter and I'm off the hook. What a great country! I've made my plans for Inzane and I'm free to move about the country. Again, thanks for all your support as it sure helped me stay optimistic that this would all work out. Whooho!
