I have the full engine covers and have always dreaded messing with the petcock cover because of the spacers that have to go in to mount it.  Tonight when I was installing my tank I replaced the cotter pin in the petcock extension with a small hitch pin clip with a key ring on it and can now remove/install the petcock handle without pulling any bolts.

Nice tip. Carolina bike and trike also make a set of studs and acorn nuts that allow you to remove the hanger cover without having to remove the studs or deal with the spacers. They work great!
