Do the stock pipes need to be cleaned out every so often?  If yes, how?

Depends on how you ride it.

You can take her out on the highway, crack her up in the lower gears to the limiter, then turn around and ride home.

OR

you can quit worrying about it.  Just ride the bike and enjoy it.
It is almost bullet proof.

Mine is a 97 Tourer and it has 242,000+ miles on it.
