The rear shock on the left side has lost the decal that indicates preload setting (1 to 5 and high). I can't tell if both shocks are set for the same level. Is there something to measure (point to point) that would indicate right and left are at the same level? What increments would the measurement change (1/8", 1/4")?

I'm not even sure which direction to rotate the shock to increase or decrease the setting. If I pulling the spanner toward the saddle bag on the right side, would I pull away from the saddle bag on the left side. Seems like the shocks are universal (same on both left and right) so if I rotate a certain way on the right side, I should rotate in the same direction on the left side. True?

I did a search for shock settings and didn't see anything that addresses my questions. So any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Joe V

If setting on the bike and looking down at the shocks, they both turn clockwise to increase pre-damp. There are only 5 settings and you can feel it getting tighter as you go up and once you hit 5 you will feel it drop to the lightest setting, 1 and you start over again.

If you'll look halfway down the shock you can see the steps used to raise or lower.

Those should tell you which setting you're using on  each side.

Thanks for the offer. I think I'll be OK for now. Permanent marker works fine, but not as authentic.

And thanks to all responders for the suggestions.
