I am in need of a good Valkyrie mechanic in the Southeast. My bike needs a total going over to get it running properly. If there's anyone in the SC, Ga, NC, FL areas who works on Valks please let me know.   Thanks.....

I would like to get the bike checked over...maybe install an I/S ICU, go through the carbs, check the valves, generally make it run right. It needs a good checkup and fixin'. I would ride to NC and pay and help if you want to mess with it. I need to find an ICU first. I'm not sure if the jets have been changed or not....maybe I should buy a set of stockers Justin Case.

Well, mine has 113,000 miles on it, and I've done all the work since I got it 5 yrs ago with 39,000 on the clock.  I can tell you that I have never been in the carbs, but I run a can of SeaFoam through it twice a year to keep them clean.  I let it get down to about 1/4 tank and pour a full bottle in the tank.  Run it about 5 miles and let it sit for a few days.  Then run the tank out and fill it with fresh gas.  Unless they are fully blocked, that should do the trick.  As for valves, I adjusted mine at about 50k.  None were really out, and I havent touched them since.  You can hear them tapping if they're out.  I already have an I/S, so I haven't changed the ICM.  I have 2 buddies with valks nearby, and we have done just about every other mod you can think of though.

Is the bike new to you or do you know the history on it?  Like what's been done and by whom?  Other than oil changes, the most important thing to be concerned with is spline and pinion cup lubrication on these bikes.  Do you know when/if that's been done?

1fast6... I don't know what's been done to this bike. The previous owner didn't do much...changed brake and clutch fluid, installed air cleaner (I think) maybe some brake work, removed the Cobra 6x6s and installed stock exhaust.  This is the forth Valk I've owned and the only one to run crappy. All I did to the others was change oil, service the drive line, and run a can of seafoam through now and then. This one runs nothing like the others did....and I don't know what to do about it.

When you say it runs crappy, what do you mean?  Does it idle smooth or rough? does it have no power at certain RPMs? Does it smoke, sputter, stall out, backfire?  Lots of experience on this board.  Whatever you're seeing, I'm sure one of us has seen it before and fixed it.  But you have to be descriptive

I think I'll just muddle along and see if I can straighten it out. It' s hard to explain what it's doing, it needs to be ridden hard to know... thanks anyway  y'all.

When I had my Yamaha Venture and was on their forum they were always having "maintenance days"  here and there. There would be a few of them each month all around where a bunch would gather, eat, work on the bikes, and meet and have fun..... sure miss that.

Well Art, most of us do it on our own.  I have a couple buds with Valks in my town and we sometimes get together to work on them.  We all actually have Dan-Marc electronic fuel shut-off valves to install, but haven't gotten together in the last few months to do it.  If you don't mind making a ride up to NC some saturday we could get together and see what can be seen, and maybe take the 4 Valks out to play!  No A/C in the shop, so with the heat it's not as much fun as it should be...  I put a tire on a Suzuki C90T last weekend sweated my @$$ off!!!

I'd love to take a ride up that way one Saturday when you have some time. My wife is shooting a wedding this weekend so I've got the "kid watch". Let me know when would be a good day for you and I'll be there if she doesn't have a shoot and the weather permitting...thanks!

Did we meet before?  I sold my stock I/S seat a few years back and I thought the guy said his wife was a photographer...  We met at South of the Border to make the exchange.  Just wondering if you might be the same guy...

Yeah man....that was me. I had one of my other Valks then....it ran well. I still have the seat..it's more comfortable to me than the Mustang seat that's on the bike. I just  need to get a backrest for it.

I'm talking driver's backrest now...not passenger. If you have one and it will work on the one piece Interstate seat I'll be very interested.   Thanks.
