Went on a field trip to the Indianapolis Children's Museum today with Lady Di and TT.  TT is an intern there and invited us to attend the new Rock history exhibit.  Really cool collection of guitars, cars of rock icons, stage costumes, cool tunes playing.  Had a great time in memory lane.

One of the items that was on display was the custom made HD for Elvis.  Looks like a 1200 cc Sportster with a custom Windjammer fairing on it, dual headlights and lightbar.

Okay, I couldn't resist!

If you look closely, you can see that even after 31 years (license plate read 1979) , Elvis's HD is marking it's spot on the museum floor.  My daughter about split a gut seeing that on the museum floor!!!

Great exhibit, if you are  in INDY, check out the Children's Museum.

PS:  TT said that only the main curator of the museum was allowed to "touch" Elvis's ride.  Nobody else was allowed!  Only the Elvis "handlers" and the curator were allowed to move it into it's display area.

The bike is a 1200 FLH full dresser. The fairing is a "Liberator" designed and built by Craig Vetter for Harley Davidson. This fairing later became the famous 'Vetter Windjammer" that was so popular with Wingers in the 70,s. A fire at the factory destroyed the fairings and the molds for the Liberator so the fairing never really tok off for Harley. A fella by the name of Wixom designed the "batwing" fairing that is still popular on Harleys today. Wixom built fine fairings for many models of bikes. If you can find one of the old "Liberator" fairings, they are quite valuable.
