Here's a strange one; my previous I/S consistently got at least 40 MPG. My current one has never made it that high, 34-36 is common and I've done all the same mods. However, after changing the alternator, and going to a 195/65-16 rear tire, my first tank was 41. Now, it has never done this before and I'm pretty consistent in my fills. I've even enlarged the vent hole so I can fill er up. Coincidence? I'm curious what the next tank will be.

Will need several tanks to know.  Too many variables on one tank full.

But thats because I ran a whole tank through at or below 45MPH with old granny starts because we were in an escort for the moving Vietnam Wall......Normally I get 33MPG It will be a long time before I see another tank that gets that close to 40MPG.....  Shocked

I usually run the speed limit to 5 over and avoid freeways.

Ya'all must ride like grandma. Iaint never done better then 38 mpg and I check every time I fill up. I only got 38 once the average is 33. It used to be 29 though. I don't know what happened.

I ride (mostly) like Grandma and I still get 33mpg.

Except once coming down off Independence Pass.
I got 60mpg that tank.

2nd tank tonight. 220 miles / 5.25 gallons = 41.9 mpg.  Either the Alternator was dragging hard, the car tire rolls a lot easier, the bike finally broke in, or my guardian angel is getting bored and giving a little push. Either way, I'm not complaining and I won't be too surprised if it does not continue. This trip even involved a 60 mile push down the freeway at 70-75. THIS is what my previous I/S did regularly.

RLD what tire did you install? DS?  I looked hard for a 195/65-16, Best I could get was a 205/65-16  Wanted the 65 for the larger tire.

Thanks! Are you sure you didn't get a 195/60R 16??  I can't find a 195/65/16 in that or any other brand.  Cool

Did a good MPG check yesterday, 410 miles Laconia and back 12 hrs on the road, @ 75 - 85 following my friends IS and got 29 MPG 0nly hit 120 Mph once, too far from home to really push her, On the way home all back roads speeds between 55-65 i topped my tank off before we hit the interstate, only could get in 2 gallons @ 72 miles on odometer = 36 MPG Supercharged, when i run fuel additives i have lost almost 5 MPG, i did not use additives yesterday was just easy on her.... but to some if you road with me that would be a matter of opinion  Evil  RE: Fun Day at Laconia Greg http://www.valkyrieforum.com/forum/vrcc_neweng.cgi

Scott, I went and found RLD's post on his Darkside review and he posted that the size he installed was a 195/60/16 Bridgestone instead of 195/65/16  that he said he installed in his later post. Just thought you might want to know.

Thanks for the reply Six Guns. I've been away for a few days. Mileage was down slightly on the third tank, but still higher than it's ever done before. 280.5 miles on 7.38 gallons = 38.01 mpg.
