Anyone have any opinions about getting phone service from your cable company. Local cable company (Comcast) is offering the service and I was wondering if anyone has had good or bad experiences with it. At work we use VOI (Voice over Internet) and so far it has not been to bad. Thanks in advance...Wegs

Wegs...

We have had phone, internet and cable through Comcast for the past 7 months with no issues.  It seems to be fine here.

I have VONAGE and its the same as the cable only cost less,,,
the best i have ever had,,, ours is set up that when the house phone rings it rings Bevs phone at the same time so if we are off somewhere besides in our head the caller doesnt know...
lots of things you can make it do,,,you have a phone box that plugs into the router and it the cable goes down while you are talking it will imediatly ring your cell and if the cable is down it will ring the alternate number you tell it to...
comcast charges 5 cents per min long distance plus 29.95 a month,,, VONAGE is 29.95 and everything is included in that price...had it for 3 years and not even a hic up...

We are using WoWay,.....no problemo.

My cell service is ATT and it is far less reliable. Just shows to go ya,....newbies can sometimes be better than the old dogs.

The Comcast service is very reliable and is a flat rate for all US calls. There is a charge for directory service and out of country calls. (Canada may even be free.)

There are many other neat features today, and more coming tomorrow with Comcast and other IP based services. I likethe fact that when I'm away from home I can check my voice mail messages, and listen to them via my laptop.

The voice mail is either e-mail, or voice mail. It's nothing special, but it is convenient for me. There are times it's easier to pick up a VM via e-mail.

I play around with webcams. I have them on three of my computers.  Its nice because rather trying to discribe things I just show them. My one is a laptop with WiFi and web cam built in, so I can be mobil and contact freinds any where in the world Via. WiFi. Which many establishment use. You can go video or just use voice if you choose.  I prefer a detachable cam because you can easily turn it around to show things, like pointing a camcorder.
To do this go to Microsoft.com and go to downloads and download MSN Messenger v.7 or better and install. If you don't already have a cam, then go to RadioShack, and I recommend the $29 Logitec web cam with hi res. and built in mic.  Then setup a MSN account with your user name you choose, then start your MSN Mess. and create contacts of your freinds that have cams. I am not sure about this but you may be able to talk to freind with just using a mic. to the comupter. I am shooting from the hip on that one.

There I one big draw back on this setup. Other then the webcam    ITS ALL FREE.
Let say you are on the road with your laptop and wolfing down a burger at a place that has WiFi, you can show and tell where you are at or what ever. That would be a Bummer you would have to explain why you are out riding and not cutting the lawn.

ours does both,,if someone leaves a message i can either listen on the phone to it or listen to it thru the email as a wav file....
