 I started it up 2 days ago. I could tell right off something was different. The exhaust sound was different. Makes a burble sound. Like it was running under water. In lower gears while holding steady at lower rpms it surges. At acceleration it still performs like always. Same at higher gears above 3rd gear on the highway. Thanks.

 Hueco, you might get on the Texas board and give a shout. Plenty of help in the DFW area. I think they have a wrenching party planned in the near future.

sounds to me like your slow jets are dirty...try running sea foam through it ....then take the bike out run high rpm's in 2nd gear and back the throttle off real fast...try to suck the gunk out of the jets....what the heck worth a try right....

It sure sounds like you have a classic case of varnished low jets, just like the boys said[ especially if the bike has sat for a while].. Just dump a full can of Sea-foam in the tank and mix it well.. Go for a long ride, I think just dinking along at the lowest engine speed while the engine is running smoothly works best, then just keep lowering the engine speed and keep running it until it runs smoothly.. It should straighten up, if it doesn't after a couple tank-fulls then you'll probably have to go to work and get your hands dirty..

I keep it in the shop at all times. But. A couple of weeks ago while at work along came one of those unexpected spring downpours. For a few hours. I had to ride home in it. The next time I started it a (few days later) was when it started acting up. Maybe got water in the gas or somewhere. Sea Foam or Techron going in tank. See if that clears it up. Just for kicks and giggles check the vent tube under the swingarm and make sure that it didn't suck up any water by being too low. Also while you are there check the tube with the plug in it to make sure it isn't gunked up and if so pop the plug and drain the dragon.  Cheesy and try again.

I would too or find a can of BG44.  It's expensive, but is a great fuel treatment.In my opinion Sea Foam is pretty much useless. Here is some text quoted from a thread on bobistheoilguy.com and a link to this thread.  Pretty much sums up what I have been thinking all along.


"I'll add a few words on the Seafoam cleaner. It contains no beneficial fuel detergents. However it is loaded with alcohol, which when burned gives the impression of better ignition. So it is basically a "one tank wonder". Better to spend your money on a valid polyether amine fuel cleaning product like BG 44K or Techron in my opinion. My motorcycle friends all rave on the Seafoam, but in actuality all it does is burn faster, thus fooling us into thinking it is a wonder drug cleaner. So I got curious and analyzed the Seafoam. It turned out to be just plain isopropyl alcohol, a dilution solvent, and a small percentage of light mineral oil. No significant metal additives or detergents to be found. So...my two cents worth of advice is spend your money elsewhere...

You can get to some of the float bowl drain screws to allow a bit of the bottom settling to drain out.

Drain out a little from each carb and see if that helps.

Try a different gas source to eliminate one possible cause!

It sure sounds like it's related to that rain!
