I recently installed #38 slow jets during a carb rebuild on my 1999 I/S.  The bike runs great at all RPM.  Before the #38 jets I had to use the choke to start it.  Now it will not start using the choke when cold. It starts right up giving it a little throttle and hitting the starter button.  Also now if you put on the choke while it is idleing after it is warmed up it dies.  I didn't do this before actually the rpm increased when the choke was applied while it was warm and running.  I set my pilots out 1 1/2 turns and I am at elevation 1880'.  My concern is that when the weather cools this fall will the Valkyrie start? I am guessing the larger richer #38 slows fattened up the bottom end causing the issue with choke (it's really not a choke , but a fuel enrichment system). Am I right or do I have a problem? Someone with #38 jets help me out.

Thanks for the help.

Bob

With 38's I need very little choke to start. If I leave the choke on a little too long the engine will die even if I feather the choke. I just turn it off and all is well. No problems in cold weather. The "enrichener" is left on just a little longer. My pilots are set about where yours are as well. With the 38's and the choke too rich is just too much.

Thanks for all the information and help that your post concerning rebuilding your valk's carbs were to me - like an idiot I let mine set over winter...and when I fired it up a couple of weeks ago..it was missing on #4, popping and, well, you know... so... after reading all the info i drove in....just got back from about a 30 miles shake-down run...it's wonderful....she's back!!!!!!!!

Thanks again!!!!!!

My advice to anyone thinking about this....read everything you can find..and do not get in a hurry...
