I wouldn call it a movie and not a documentary....
Movie claim: In the film’s signature moment, Mike Markham, a landowner ignites his tap water. The filmmaker leaves the viewer with the impression the flaming tap water is a result of natural gas drilling even though he acknowledges that tests of Markham’s well revealed only naturally occurring methane.

Truth: The Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission tested Markham’s water in 2008 finding his water well had been drilled into a natural gas pocket. The film leaves a clear—and false—perception that hydraulic fracturing was to blame. This is simply not true.

Movie claim: The film shows footage of a Colorado News report that Renee McClure was lighting her tap on water.

Truth: The depiction of a flaming faucet in the home of Renee McClure in Colorado also leaves viewers with a false impression about the connection to the gas industry to natural methane in people’s water wells. Ms. McClure’s well was sampled by the state and it too showed only “naturally occurring biogenic methane gas in well and no impact from oil and gas activities.”

Movie claim: The film flashes the word’s “35 mile fish kill drunkard creek Washington County, PA.”

Truth: The Environmental Protection Agency has tied the fish kills in Dunkard Creek to coal mine run-off. Here is the official report and a story on it in the Pittsburgh Post Gazette.
Movie claim: The natural gas industry is exempted from ``The Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act the Safe Drinking Water Act the Superfund law and about a dozen other environmental and democratic regulations.’’

Truth: The natural gas production is subject to federal, state and local regulations that cover everything from initial permits to well construction to water disposal. The natural gas community is committed to being good neighbors and responsible stewards of the land, and we are committed to answering the public’s questions and concerns in a factual and science-based way.

Movie claim: “Just a few short months after this interview, the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection suffered the worst budget cuts in history, amounting to over 700 staff either being fired or having reduced hours and 25 percent of its total budget cut.”

Truth:
DEP press release issued January 28, 2010: “Governor Edward G. Rendell announced today that the commonwealth is strengthening its enforcement capabilities. At the Governor’s direction, the Department of Environmental Protection will begin hiring 68 new personnel who will make sure that drilling companies obey state laws and act responsibly to protect water supplies. DEP also will strengthen oil and gas regulations to improve well construction standards.”

Movie claim: The film highlights the town of Dish, Texas, where the mayor has complained about benzene in his blood because of exposure to natural gas operations.

Truth: The fact is a Texas Department of State Health Services investigation in Dish, showed that residents’ exposure to contaminants “was not greater than that of the general U.S. population.”

Yep ... saw it the other night and found it interesting. In as much as it is very much slanted against the process known as Fracking I did find it interesting the number of situations where peoples water seemed to go bad just after they injected the Fracking Solution and the various health issues that subsequently occurred. It was also interesting that there were a couple of people whom the drilling companies actually put in a filtration systems and/or cisterns because their water was no longer usable. I would like to see more in depth reporting on this with the hopes of a more objective and scientific view of Fracking and its ramifications on the environment.

There are too many "experts" that don't know diddley about the actual steps in drilling and production of an oil well.  I spent five years in the oil & gas fields of western Oklahoma where some of the well head preasures were as high as 14,000 psi and above.  This was 30 years ago and these wells were produced safely and without incident to the environment.  As far as a flaming faucet, that is purely a movie makers fantasy to try and impress someone who does not know anything about the actual process of drilling and producing gas & oil wells.  I still have friends that continue to drill and produce these wells in the same area...JTL  laugh laugh laugh

14,000 PSI now that be some pressure.

That would blow your hat off.

I saw the effort to cap wells in Kuwait and the air was so satrurated (ABOVE THE UPPER EXPLOSIVE LIMIT) they worked right in the natural gas plume without fear of explosion.

These guys are real men of action, no wimps or liberals here just guts and courage.

When you have lived in a work place like this then come and tell me that you hate

the Hard Arse Workers in the Gulf that allow us to ride around in Air Conditioned Comfort and

blame the Rough Necks for the Problems.

They just want to work.

Risk and reward is what is at work and the Governement with no Idea on this concept should but out.

Big Al, you have a computer and plenty of time.  Do a little research on the "Anadarko Basin" oil & gas reserves and the different strattas of development there back in the late 70's & early 80's.  I have been there and seen the gages.  Surely someone wrote about it.  Oh yes, I was on one drilling rig that blew out and burned to the ground, but it was capped off by the end of the next day and there was basically no environmental impact...JTL

It's as simple as going a search on the internet...Search ...Bad well water from fracking...contaminated underground water caused by fracking.

Think you may find that the well in question was drilled into a
pocket on natural gas. It did take some time for the gas to leak
 into the well after wards

I think my man Dartswinger would like to formally apologize to the oil and gas industry for the making of "Gasland" and any uncomfortable facts that may have leaked out to the people that pay for oil company subsidies and the consequential outcomes of their actions.

Just a comment about "searching" the internet for information. I am sure we all know that the information you find on the internet is only as reliable, and honest, as the person or organization that posted it. Unfortunately, the internet has become possibly the biggest contributor of misinformation in the history of our planet.

I saw it and I agree with you.It seems that some of us only saw the flaming faucet, then put their helmet on-backwards, as usual.  It blew me away to see just how many of these wells exist and their venting condensation tanks and muck they use to drill is who knows what.  How would you like to try and sell your home after they f%%$ up the water supply-cistern or no.  That cistern will become the owners responsibility-you know that.
