I have a 92 ford f-250 4wd that the power steering doesn't work while making right hand turns. It still turns left no problem. The fluid level is correct and the belt is tight and not slipping. Any ideas as to what may cause this? Thanks a bunch.

Better to be judged by 12, then carried by 6.

Could be a calapsing hose. But, before you replace everything, like i did, check this. Follow the steering col up to the fire wall. Make sure the rubber boot on the fire wall is not ripped and getting caught in the steering shaft. My 01 Z-71 had trouble like you are talking. But not all the time. come to find out the rubber boot was loose and caught in the shaft. I had to dig little rubber balls out from around the shaft. Of coarse I found this after replacing the steering pump. also they say there is a valve that goes bad in the pump. At least thats what they told me on my Z-71. I vote check the firewall.

on FORD pumps they usually have a self bleed function by (while the engine is running) turn the wheel all the way to the left or right and "bump" it at the end a few times, then all the way to the other side and "bump" it again...........worth a try

Hey Chuck , Like Chrisj said , that power valve inside when it goes it'll favor one side or the other while turning and it sounds like your gonna be replacing the pump ..... the only other problem Might could be the gear box but not too likely only if you have alot of play in your steering ...

I say the power steering box, the spool valve in the box itself has the function of distributing fluid to which side you turn if it works on one side and not the other its not usually  the pump. The pump knows one thing put out pressure and IF the pressure is ok then your into the box. I would say try changing the fluid and see if that makes a difference sometimes it works. If it does have the power valve and it does go bad its usually not one sided and the fluid will start to burn because it wont let the fluid pass the valve and under pressure starts to heat the fluid. Easy check disconnect the valve and see if it makes a difference. Without a pressure gage there is no way to confirm.

I'm wondering how I missed this question,,but,, regardless,, I'm with Robert.. That truck should have a recip/ball steering box and I also believe a valve is hung.. Changing the fluid is the easiest quickest thing to do..And I would change it a couple times before giving up.. I'm not a big fan of additives,,but,, steering additives do help at times[ I didn't want to be believe it until I saw it].. Does this monster have a steering cooler?? Some do, some don't.. I'm thinking that truck should have a Saginaw box and most do have a removable valve body,, I don't like removing them unless necessary because some need to be adjusted and can be a real PITA..
