I know that the staff for Inzane will be distributing many fine ride maps/directions, but I was really hoping that there may be a Bellaire local or two that can lead some nice, even paced, scenic rides.  I'm not too good with following directions on unguided MC rides and hate looking down at the tank constantly, or worrying I missed a turn.  Definitaley not looking to tear up twisties as I will be riding two up mostly.  Lunch would be on me for anyone volunteering to lead some rides (that I participate in of course).

That's a good ride, Joe.  if you have the time, take 123 west out of Paradise all the way to Newberry. turn west on 28 south of Newberry three miles to 117, then south to highway Two and back to Big Mac.
The first part of 123 west is very nice, Tahquanamen Falls Park, etc, fee is $8.00, I think. The rest of 123 down through Newberry and over and down 117 is sorta ok  but Highway Two has a great view of Lake Michigan.  Just before reaching I75 on 2,  going toward St. Ignace, is a right turnoff for a scenic view of Big Mac. Nice new little park with good parking and restrooms.

If Inzane were here in NH I would have a quick response for the best ride leader possible,  he has been travelling the backloads of NH for 15 years and being paid to do it!!!!!  He is a post office area maintenance technician (AMT,, he has volunteered to lead rides should Inzane ever come to NH).  The point I am trying to make though ,,,, if the AMT that services the region around Bellaire is a rider,,, I will do try and do some research and update here....

Just keep in mind the scheduled events for those days.  Thursday the 15th is the memorial ride for fallen VRCC brethren and state rep luncheon in the Presidential Suite and catered by none other than myself   , as well as the opening ceremonies at 4:30 followed by the block party and Friday morning is the Joe Boyd ride, the blood drive,  and in the afternoon is the bike games, as well as tech sessions scheduled both days.  We would like for all attendees to participate in the Joe Boyd ride and we encourage state reps to attend the state rep luncheon.  I can guarantee you it will be a good meal.

I have heard from several local Michigan chapter leaders they are planning several informal rides during the event, in which folks will be welcome to join in.

We will have a dry erase board at the Michigan welcome table where folks can see who's riding when and where at what time and leaving from....so we hope this will help....

Hi Joe...since I can't ride because of the leg, I will be sitting around alot, I have over 200 Michigan maps and several highlighter pens plus we have 8 local MiVRCC Chapter leaders and right now 99 MiVRCC members registered for the event, our intent here in Michigan is to welcome all riders and to show off our State...we all will make a point of making sure our guest are well taken care of and there will be plenty of rides going on...there are thousands of miles of great roads, forests, shorelines over a hundred lighthouses,old forts and missions dating back to the 1700's and earlier St. Ignace (1671)...anywhere you ride in Northern Michigan you will find something that will attract your attention you just have to look...

like I said if your bored and looking for a ride long or short...I can't run away very fast so stop by and ask, I can guide you on a route or let you know who riding where...

RTaz,  Maybe you can help me plan some points of interest for those wanting to ride at least 75 miles to see where Mick-O-Pegs are made (Frankfort, MI).  So far, I have 4 points of potential interest: 

1.  Moomers was noted the 'best ice cream shop' in the country by some 50,000 voters according to Good Morning America.  They have field trips (takes about 1.5 hours) but those must be scheduled ahead of time and have a minimum size group of 12.  I'm not sure how that could work with your other events.   http://www.moomers.com/  If nothing else, I would recommend it as a Point of Interest along the way to/from seeing where Mick-O-Pegs are made.
 
        2.  Mission Point Light House would involve a few extra (enjoyable miles) because it's located in Peninsula Township Park, at the tip of the peninsula (about 16 miles long) separating the east and west arms of Grand Traverse Bay.  http://www.lighthousefriends.com/light.asp?ID=713  On a hot day, this will be the coolest place to ride regardless of the wind direction since we'll be cooled from the breeze from the water - regardless of wind direction.
 
        3.  Point Betsie Light House is 'closer to home' for the Mick family since our father and grandfather worked on the car ferries that crossed Lake Michigan into and out of the port at Frankfort.  In the early 1900's, those car farries relied heavily on the Point Betsie Light House.  http://www.lighthousefriends.com/light.asp?ID=199   Point Betsie Light House is 'kept alive' with by The Friends of Point Betsie Lighthouse but they will only be open on Friday - Sunday during InZane.
 
        4.  The Sleeping Bear Point Coast Guard Station Maritime Museum will be open from 11AM to 5 PM daily during InZane.  At 3:00 PM each day, there is a re-enactment of the breeches buoy rescue drill.  Those still living the life of a child should especially enjoy that drill.  http://www.nps.gov/slbe/planyourvisit/maritimemusem.htm

Do you have some other suggestions or ideas how a trip to Frankfort might be made more enjoybable?  I don't want to pull people away from other events at InZane, but hope that many will stop to see my brother's shop.  Those owning Mick-O-Pegs may want to make their own very special 'one of a kind' "legs".

so far it sounds like you have a great plan...I will say ...once you are riding on M-22 or many of the roads in Northern Mi you won't need a guide there will be alot of things to occupy your time ....the roads are great...the small towns are full of unique places to stop and see...if you get bored stop by the Michigan welcome table and visit...we'll see if we can help you out...
