Thinking about heading to South Dakota in Sept and was looking to stay in Custer as a base for a few day.

Anyone ever stay at the Chief Motel?  If so.. how would you rate it?

Thanks!

Have not stayed there but I have stayed in Hill City, which is just a little north of Custer. We stayed at the Lantern Inn, very motorcycle friendly.  Charlie and Janet are great hosts.  Most of the hotels
in that area are motorcycle friendly.

Great area to ride in.

We just left Hill City  yesterday.  Very, very bike friendly.  Lots of small ma and pops kind of places and also the chains.  Lots of nice riding.

Better to be judged by 12, then carried by 6.

Custer is a good place to stay from what others tell me. Like popeye said, its all MC friendly. I only been to a Subway there a few years ago and cant remember much of the town. Check a SD events calender and see whats going on during Sept. They have Custer Days and the buffalo round up in the State park. It could be busy. Not sure when these are.

I stayed the Super 8 a couple of times and it is a very decent motel with a good free breakfast.  In fact, might go there again this Sept as well.
