Instructions say just splice the unit in line between light and battery.  I looked at the electrical schematic and there are three wires coming from the brake light.  It shows brown, green, and green/white.  The plain green is in the middle so I am assuming that is the one.  Rather than cut the protective rubber casing holding the wires, it seems easier to access under the right side cover where the wires are visible where they enter that big clear plastic protector that accepts all 5 wires (add blue and orange).  Anybody install one lately?

By the wire colors you indicated, you must have a Standard or Tourer.  The wire functions are as follows:

Brown - Running Lights
Green - Ground
Green/Yellow (yeah...it is supposed to be yellow...not white) - Brake Lights
Your other wires in the plastic sleeve:
Light Blue - Right Turn Signal
Orange - Left Turn Signal.

The referenced website will show you the wiring schematic... http://www.rattlebars.com/valkfaq/schematics/rpage03.html

So, if you slice your module into the Green/Yellow wire, your back-off module will work properly.  It doesn't matter where you splice it in.  i would probably do it at the right side cover for easier storage of the module (under the seat or side cover).

Good luck with your safety modification.

Thanks so much, I should have known plain green was probably ground and that the "live wire" would be stripped.  Haven't done anything electrical on my Valk for a while...Thanks again for the quick response!!

The wires to the brake are connected under the right side panel.  They then go through or near the battery area toward the rear of the bike in a plastic tube or sleeve.  The brake light flasher comes with double sided tape, I stuck mine inside on the frame near where your tool kit/owners manual is located.

No need to splice any wires.  Just install bullet connectors on either side of the Back-Off module and plug it in where the wires connect in the boot.  You may have to make a pigtail of one male to two females to connect to a ground.

I installed one on my standard last spring. I put it under the sidecover and it worked great. Easy to keep it out of the way there, too.

I cut the wire (don't remember which one...) and soldered the modulator in place.

Open your right side cover and unplug the brake light lead
there and put a male on  one lead and female lead on the
in and out leades of the backoff mod.  That way if you want to
take it out in the future all you have to do is  is unplug and plug
the stock leads back together.  Hope I explaned that well enough.
