History:  Original weak 11 year old Battery changed out today.  Last tuned up at previos owners dealership 5 years and 2500 miles ago with valve adjustments.

Bought the bike three weeks ago and had to leave the choke on full for 10-15 minutes to keep the engine going. Put in 2/3 can of Sea Foam before driving 40 miles home.  Wife followed bike home and said the exhaust had a better all the way home.  Bike started fine and ran good. In the process of installing Iridium plugs, old plugs had gas odor and thin layer of gas of thin flat layer of black carbon.

Suspect that the weak battery was causing poor ignition and robbing electrical energy needed for bike to run right?

Haven't been switching my fuel switch to OFF after a ride..

What the hec could be causing this?

If the bike is running good, especially in the lower engine speed ranges, then you're good to go.. Sooty sparklers are common with these monsters if they're run easy and not much to worry about.. The remedy is to ride it !!
Oh, almost forgot, don't forget to shut the fuel off when you're done.. I think this is very important.. You don't really have to remember to turn it back on,, if you forget,, it'll remind you in a mile or so..  Smiley

Put in 6 Iridium Plugs and the engine sounds better . . . can here each individual piston pop in the exhaust now, and more power.  Other than that I think the previous two posters that helped me out were right on.
