About a thousand sounds about right. They're really not worth very much. Nobody wants them for daily transportation and they didn't have a very good reputation when they were in production (roll-overs). It's a pretty good little truck for around town, but I'd be carefull out on an Interstate with one.......they really don't belong on a highway like that at those speeds. There are alot of folks out there that are buying them up and making rock crawlers out of them.
That said, I owned and drove one for 13 years. That 2.8 motor was bullet proof and had well over 250,000 on it when I sold it and it NEVER had anything done to it other than change the oil religiously. The tranny however was a different story (automatic). Went through two of 'em. Ain't cheap to fix either. And for a small truck, it sucks gas too. Mine never got better than 14/15 mpg.
The original paint on it was crap too. Had it painted a couple years after I bought it and put new wheels and bigger tires on it.......looked a thousand percent better with new paint....drove and rode better with the new treads on it too. It was originally two tone dark blue with baby blue in the middle. Sold it 6 years ago and got 3600 for it then. Paid 4500 for it when it was only 5 years old.
Another thing is the a/c in it.......it runs on R12 (not the newer R134a that all vehicles run on today). You can't get R12 anymore. You can get a drop in replacement called Hot Shot (R414b) and it runs and cools really well with the Hot Shot, but unless you have a CFC card from the EPA and can work on a/c's yourself, you'll need to get someone to do that for you......and that ain't cheap either.
While I owned it, I had alot of people tell me it was the best looking little Bronco II that they'd ever seen. It did serve me fairly well while I owned it, and it would even pull a 19 foot ski boat pretty well too.......but, would I own one again.......nope!
This is what it looked like when I sold it.......
