I decided to try Mobil 1 10/50 in my 2000 IS with 28,000 miles on it. Been running Amsoil for the last three years but O’Reilly’s had such a good deal on the Mobil I thought I would try it. Bought a three pack of chrome filters on Ebay and did the change last week. I immediately noticed a ticking sound, not sure if it’s under the belt cover or valve cover but it’s too much of coincidence that it started after the oil change. Is it possible my bike is addicted to Amsoil? Could it be a cheap filter? (They were $10 each but they could be Chinese)

The "ticking" sound is usually attributed to a slight exhaust leak. You might try re-tightening manifold bolts to proper specs (I think 7inch/pounds).  Sometimes you don't take to the time to notice until you take the time to notice.

Could be that Mobil One is so good it is quieting the engine enough for you to hear other natural Valk noises. uglystupid2

That's 7 ft lbs (84 in lbs).

Mine always ticks more just after changing the oil.  Same kind of oil and filter.  I think the new fresh oil allows whatever is ticking (rockers?) to float around more easily and make more sound.  Maybe it is the bike thanking me for finally changing the oil Smiley .  It lessens as time goes on and/or I forget about it until the next oil change, and there it is again.

Never had ticking on cold start up below 50F till 3 days ago..No problem with ticking with old formilar Shell.. Only other change that I have been running techtron in the tank for past 3 fill up's.. Useing OEM oil filters..

I knew better than to quote specs but I think the logic still holds up.

Careful !!!!  Those studs twist off very easy, especially if the've been untouched for a while!
