Not too long ago (maybe a month ?) I installed a Stebel Air Horn. It was installed as instructed and with a relay.  After a couple weeks I noticed it started to falter and most of the time would only blow thru one trumpet.  I started to think maybe it could be something other than the Horn itself but I isolated it from the bike and hooked it up directly to a separate battery and it sounded the same.

So .... I checked into other options for horns and came upon the Fiamm "Freeway Blasters" (supposedly louder than the Fiamm "Highway Blaster"). Is it louder than the Stebel ??  .... I'd say it's pretty close and personally I like the sound MUCH better of the Fiamm .... it's like a LOUD car horn. It does NOT use a compressor which I think went bad on the Stebel. With the Fiamm, I installed both the "high" & "low" tone (two separate horns side by side .... they are symmetrical). Now when I beep the horn I get a VERY authoritative sound .... RIGHT NOW.

Anyway just thought I'd pass on my experience in case any one is contemplating.

If you go to youtube you can hear a sound bite of the "Freeway Blasters"

had the fiamm, they didn't last long. picked up dual horn setup  from a dodge caravan $5 parts yard, much louder than fiamm, inspection thought they were air horns at first.
just think how loud some cars/trucks horns are and they are under the hood.

I've never been a fan of air horns for a couple of reasons. The ones I've heard sound good but I like the simplicity of straight up car horns. If you are going to go to the trouble to wire in a relay for the compressors amperage draw why not just go with louder higher amp drawing electric horns instead & skip the middleman compressor?? Not to mention the delay that some air horns have.
I'm also afraid that having a super loud compressor driven horn would scare the crap out of the blue-haired land yacht pilots that are thick as flies down here. That kinda defeats the purpose of a horn. Grin Might scare 'em into runnin' you over instead of just lettin' 'em know where you're at!  Shocked A pair of car horns is a familiar sound that is light years better than a stock motorcycle horn!
Ten bucks worth of electrical components & a pair of junkyard car horns with a bit of ingenuity is IMHO the way to go.  cooldude

Dang .... never dawned on me to check salvage yard. Oh well, if the Fiamm horns fail I'll prolly give that a try.
