Celebrate the birth of our country by honoring those that gave their all for the ideals of

FREEDOM

I wish someone would do the old Paul Harvey (yeah, he could be corney at times) broadcast about the original signers of the Declaration of Independance and what happened to them afterwards.  Some of these patriots died penniless and lost everything they owned in the world.  (Unfortunately, the full truth of this essay was subject to dispute.  But it was fun to hear.)  Many of these patriots went on to be leaders in our original government.

The price of FREEDOM is NOT cheap and requires vigilance to maintain it.

Have a happy 4th of July!  cooldude

Two quotes that I find interesting by Thomas Jefferson, although there are many poignant quotes on this subject of government:

“The two enemies of the people are criminals and government, so let us tie the second down with the chains of the Constitution so the second does not become the legalized version of the first.”   Thomas Jefferson

"My reading of history convinces me that most bad government results from too much government."   Thomas Jefferson

Just got home yesterday from Colonial Williamsburg. If ever you get the chance PLEASE go and see this remarkable place. I have always loved history, and to walk the streets and the houses, where our founding fathers walked is truely awesome. I will go back soon.....

This country, with its institutions, belongs to the people who inhabit it. Whenever they shall grow weary of the existing government, they can exercise their constitutional right of amending it or their revolutionary right to dismember it or overthrow it." -- Abraham Lincoln, 4 April 1861

Did a historic vacation a number of years back with the kids.

Historic Williamsburg is a great place to visit.  Monticello is also good.  Unfortunately, we missed the Yorktown battlefield on our trip.  Sad
