The "famous" weenie dog in this pic is now burried in the garden.  His liver was shutting down and the vet said the most humane thing to do would be to put him to sleep.  I sprang for the blood test to make sure it wasnt just an infection, but alas....liver numbers were off the chart.

His last meal was a piece of bacon and big hunk of cheddar cheese the vet had from the fridge there, he looked up at me with trusting eyes as the doc pushed in the drugs and he went to sleep  angel

RIP Barron

Sucks man.  But, you are ultimately responsible to make their passing as easy as you can for them.

It's our job as pet Owners.

I share your sadness, and remember mine from years past.

Cry  I have one of mine at the Vet now.  Hoping long term meds will extend his quality of life.  My wife would rather see me sick.  crazy2

My 15-or-so year old kittie Barney finally used up the last of his nine lives recently and had to be
put to sleep at the vet. In my lap. Body failing, but eyes clear. His, not mine...

A way that I deal with loosing pets without getting hard hearted about it is
by thinking about where this guy, for example, might be if he didn't live at my house...

I really feel your pain, having been there and done that. I'm truly sorry for your loss-

I hope that Barron hooks up with my Ralph and Casey in that forever garden that they have to romp around in-

Sorry to hear that Chris. Been there too man. I held her head in my hands while the vet pushed in the meds. It was hard to drive home from the vet. Kept getting something in my eyes.  Sad

Ya, I have that feeling still.....something in my eyes, I thought I was ready for this because he had signs the last few days.  But to make that FINAL decision and be right there, and feel..........ya, tough still after a few hours...you still expect him to be rounding the corner or laying on his rug...kinda like during a hurricane and the power is out, you still hit the light switch when you go into the bathroom....the brain knows, but the heart hasnt got the memo yet

Sorry for your loss brother and sister.  He is waiting at the rainbow bridge now.

(Author unknown)

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Hits home, Chris! We had to put down the 4 year old bloodhound, two weeks ago, for Gastric Torsion, out of the blue. Mealtime, happy and content, three hours later, had to put him down. It's always hard, but as everyone has said, WE are the ones that have to decide. With a house full of pets, and we ALWAYS have a houseful, there's very little room on our yard, for more burials. We currently have two cats, and two dogs, that range from 14 to 18 years old, so I am in for a very busy year or two, and that's besides the other two dogs, another cat, 8 birds and two turtles, that are much younger. I feel your pain, but I find it's easiest, when I remember each and every one of them, over the years. All but one, over the last 25 years, has been a "rescue", even Booker, the bloodhound that just replaced Tank, this week.

I am so sorry. About a year ago I had the same experience, it was a rough couple of days after that.
