I got my '98 Valk in January with 17K on the clock. Figured that the air filter had never been serviced so it was time to pull the tank, add a quick disconnect, and replace the filter. All was going well when I noticed a little gas dripping out of the petcock. Repositioned the valve, and Damn!, it was still leaking. Saw no point in screwing with the Honda valve as the stinking rebuild kit was $45 at the local stealer. So ordered the 1311-CH. Hopefully it will be here by next weekend so I can get my girl together. Glad I found the problem before it caused me some real heartache.
For those who have made this modification, did you plug the vacuum hoses with loctite and a screw?
Ride on!

I removed the hose from the nipple on the intake runner and used a cap to plug it. I happened to have a Redeye cap on hand so I used it. I didn't want to leave an extra hose just laying around the engine area.

did you get the one for the valk? when you hit reserve there is still about a gallon in the tank(interstate tank) and it comes with the rubber cap for #6 intake tube.

Saw no point in screwing with the Honda valve.
I just capped mine I think with a vac cap from the auto store. Or my CC is hooked up to her, I cant remember. If it is capped, I check mine every year for cracks and replace. The pingel will be a tad smaller then the oem fuel line. I added a inline filter and used a smaller hose from it to the pingel and used a good hose clamp. Had to cut a little of the oem hose to have enought to fit the filter and extra hose in. Love my pingel. I have no worries in the middle of no where with it. I dont even worry when I forget to turn it off for days.

When you get the pingle and oem valve both in your hands,i think the upgrade to pingle will be quiet evident,,,like the left rear wheel bearring,,some things are better upgradded,,hey the whole bike cant be perfect right out of the box!!!

So, the Pingel's reserve is not significantly smaller than the OEM valve?

So, the Pingel's reserve is not significantly smaller than the OEM valve? You could measure the height of the stand tube in the tank and come up with an approximation. I didn't really care too much about the difference and did not take note. Still have not gotten into the reserve yet. Anymore with all the gas stations around a reserve of ten to fifteen miles seems adequate to me. ***

It was VERY much less reserve on my Tourer and nearly got me into trouble. Depending on conditons you could have as little as 15 miles left when you go to reserve. That won't work for me in Montana so I took the old brass tube from the oem petcock and JB Welded a section of it (it will fit inside the pingle) to make it the same pickup height as the original. You have to lose the pretty pingle screen so I added an inline filter (purolater F10024 or wix equivalent). Then I went through the added precaution of the dan marc electric fuel shutoff valve too. Be careful if you fool with adding things to the oem fuel line as they have a bad habit of making it too long and causing fuel starvation kinks. Loved the Pingel "Pass More Gas!" sticker too which looks good on the back of my helmet....

Yes the resv is smaller. Which really dont matter since they all hold the same amount of gas. Just like your oem petcock, you need to learn how far you can go. Dont road trip to find it out. If your a 'run to resv then get gas' kinda guy, you must not have travel out west before. When a station is 50+ miles apart you dont pass many up. I ran out twice before in SD & IA. Not a good feeling! Normally around home I get 32mpg/ 150 miles to about resv. When we travel we get gast around or past the 125 mile mark. We take the same route every year so we know where the stations are. Pulling trailer, resv is 8 miles.

My experience... yes, the tube is shorter, yes, reserve is significantly less. I just estimated my reserve under all my riding conditions. My worst case to reserve with aggressive riding was 138 miles. My best case was 172 miles. My agressive was very agressive and I normally do not ride like that, I've been using 150 miles as a bench mark to fill up. +1 to what BonS did... I removed the hose from the nipple on the intake runner and used a cap to plug it. I happened to have a Redeye cap on hand so I used it. I didn't want to leave an extra hose just laying around the engine area.
I did the same thing, didn't want to use the 11 year old dried rubber hose, replaced with a redeye viton cap.

There's one specifically marketed for the Valkyrie? I got the 1311CH (if I recall correctly), and it didn't come with anything, and the reserve is ~1/2 gallon (IS tank). Where I am drives whether I hit reserve ever. Around town, I almost never fill up until reserve. On a road trip, I am NOT happy if I hit reserve. I could have cut out a gas stop on my last long run if I had been comfortable hitting reserve, but I chickened out. I'd rather stop than walk.
