I am thinking about putting a chrome rim on the front of my 2000 Interstate the next time it needs a tire. Any suggestions or tips on where to get the best bang for my buck? Anyone put a chrome rim on their Valk and wish they wouldn`t have?

I have heard too many horror stories about chromed wheels pitting, flaking and peeling.... so I decided not to go that route. I scrubbed the wheels up good with a kitchen nylon scrubber and Soft Scrub with Bleach. Then used a wet and soapy Brillo Pad...... and finally a Mother's Mini Power Ball with some White Diamond Polish. Cleaned em up nice and shiney and now they are easier than ever to take care of.

Cost me a hundred bucks each to have them professionaly polished but they look like chrome.

JP Sonnier of Lake Charles, La can get you a chrome wheel but he will need yours as a trade-in. Quality all the way.

I had my wheels chromed ten years ago, wish I didn't. They were never perfect to begin with, and now have so much pitting and flaking I am putting on some newly-polished replacements. I also had a problem with the chrome plater messing up the hub where the left rear wheel bearing fits. I went through several bearings before having the hub bored, pluged, and re-bored at a machine shop to fix the issue.
Like the other fellows said, the polished wheels look great.

Thanks to all for the information. I guess I will look for some one that can polish it up for me. My Valk had 21,000 miles on it when I bought it, and the wheels are pitted a little bit. I have done the Mother`s alumnium polish work out. It helped some, but still not up to my standards. When you get them polished professionally, do you send them out somewhere, or have it done locally? If local, what business does that kind of work?

I am a good few thousand miles from you across the Atlantic but I took mine to a specialist polisher. He polishes aluminium for industry and restores vintage motorcycles too. He did a great job on mine at a reasonable price. I took the tyres and the rotors off and once he had finished I replaced the bearings as I didn't want his abrasive compound in my bearings. I would look in Yellow Pages or talk to local restoration people.

A guy right here in my hometown does all sorts of polishing. It is amazing what he can do to aluminum, brass, stainless. They have the special compounds, wheels and high horsepower spindles not to mention the knowledge. I bought about a hundred dollars worth of compounds and wheels and tried to do it with my 6 inch angle grinder but the Valk wheels were to much for me. I can do the little stuff but take the big stuff to him. I would think every major town has a polisher, most car restorers and antique brass restorers would know where one is in your area.

I hope I don't offend too many people, but I think the valk wheels are kinda ugly and they had a dated design even back in 97. I've searched 4 aftermarket with no luck. Anyone know of any without going completely custom design?

Mine did not look that good the day I put them on! Love the chrome punkin. Classic Components did mine, by the way, but maybe their quality is better now than it used to be...

Second that comment. Had my wheels done thru JP (Hard6) aabout 3 - 4 years ago. Beautiful chrome and no issues.

This has been discussed numerous times in the past and the conclusion is that no one is making a wheel for the Valk any longer. RC Components about 60 miles from my front door was one of the few making a billet wheel and they stopped production several years ago. I wanted a set back when they were in production but the cost kept me on the sidelines.
