Palm Desert, CA

Hot in the desert now.  I am in Coachella Valley (Palm Springs area east of LA about 150 miles) and got up early this morning for a quick ride of about 60 miles to clear my head.  Out from my condo on residential roads for a couple miles and over to super slab I-10.

Headed east on I-10 for about 15 miles to Dillon Road.  Then up Dillon heading northwest about 25 miles through desert and up along mountains on north side of valley.  Sun just up over mtns.

Two lane blacktop, occasional vehicle or road runner.  Did pass a small rattlesnake crossing the road.

Even early the temperature was about 90 degrees.

It is a scenic route with desert, mountains and clear skies.

A few dips, but not many curves.

A few houses here and there and an occasional spa with natural desert hot springs.

Heading west in the direction of San Gorgonio mountain, highest peak in southern CA at 11,503 ft.

Coming up on windmills where I-10 enters east side of valley through San Gorgonio pass.  Parts of one of the Mission Impossible movies was filmed in windmills.  I think a helicopter chase scene.

San Jacinto mountain (10,834 ft) is on the south side of pass and windmills.  I have another ride I like up in the mountains, around San Jacinto and back down the other side.

Turn south for about 5 miles and then back east and home.. Seems to help clear my head almost everytime.

I am sure most of you have a quick ride you take when you don't have a lot of time, but need time on the bike.

I do that when ever I can. Got about a 40 mile route, 60 mile route and 100 mile route that works real well. All 2 lane blacktop thru the hills in North AL. Good to help clear the mind. It's pretty hot here too right now. Heat index to be about 105 today.

WOw. Looks like "flat out" roads. But, then again you have a Black Bike. Evil Great pictures, thanks. Wink

Hey Donald, thanks for sharing.  I spent '87-'92 at March AFB in Riverside/Moreno Valley CA, and used to ride out to Palm springs all the time (except in the dead of Summer).  I recognize those roads, windmills and desert.  With the Summer heat, I preferred riding up San Juacinto or San Gorgonio (Big Bear)....much cooler up in the mountains.

Quick ride to clear head.  Do you have one?

Yes, I was born with my particular head.   2funny

Yes Jess, noted my confusing question after I posted.  I suspect we all have good "head"  Roll Eyes though not always "clear" and that we all have our favorite rides for different durations.

From E-City u to the Outer Banks, anything south of Nags Head. Love the beach road on a weekday, in the a.m. No crowds. Just sand dunes and sea gulls.

Thanks for the ride report, good pics. Those giant windmills always blow what's left of my mind every time I see a bunch of them! Also, I feel your pain regarding the temps you live in. The low temp here in the wee hours in the A.M. will be 92! Sheesh!
