I'm starting to have problems with the petcock and fuel starvation (actually lack of fuel) when flipping to reserve.. Of course I'm on the road going to the Canadian Rockies and I'm presently in Sudbury, Ontario.
What I need is the actual part number of the cover set. I show it as 16950-MBY-033.. Is this the correct number? I plan to order it from a Honda dealer out west (Edmonton) and pick it up in a few days .
I'd appreciate it if someone could verify this part number...
Thanks, Kevin

Do yourself a favor and replace that pos Honda petcock with a Pingel. I got mine from easternperformance.com.

Marty.... which Pingel did you get? I've got an Interstate tank out for paint and would like to get a good valve installed that will look like the original.

If the problem gets worse, follow my instructions in this thread http://www.valkyrieforum.com/bbs/index.php/topic,18092.0.html to eliminate the vacuum shutoff until you get the cover set. Just remember to turn off the fuel valve every time you shut off the bike. The part number for the cover set (includes vacuum diaphram) I ordered and installed in Canada is 16953-MBZ-B51 I'm in Calgary if you need help with that or anything else. PM me if you need my phone number. Kevin

You get a good valve, but it wont look like the original. You turn it on/off under the tank. No switch out to the side of the tank like oem. +1 on the pingel. Do it right the 1st time.

Several guys have used the electric shutoff from Dan-Marc. Mounted upstream from the stock petcock, it stops the flow whenever the key is turned off. Now that's easy to remember! You still have the appearance and reserve funtion of the original with a reliable backup. Personally I think the price of the Pingel is pretty high for such a basic piece of hardware. The Dan-Marc is only $26. http://www.dan-marc.com/79-afc11112.html

Like Fudgie said, it doesn't resemble the original but it is less expensive and a helluva lot better quality than the original. You also have to plug the vacuum port at cylinder #6. Marty

Thanks for all the replies..I'll go the Pingel route in the future (if I don't go with a belly tank). I already have a belly tank on my tourer and it works for me
Right now I'll go with OEM as I really do need to complete this 17 day trip.
Thanks for the dealer info..I'll call one in the morning and have it waiting for me .
We are going to start in Jasper and work our way to Banff and continue on south to Glacier National park
Thanks again, Kevin aka BigMac NJ

If you can take highway 40 as part of your route south, then DO! Highway 22 is always nicer than highway 2 in Alberta.

FYI
Got the bike fixed at the Powerhouse dealer in in Calgary on Friday. Running great again....Had a few moments on the plains of Canada that had me thinking that this wouldn't be a good place to breakdown.
The petcock started to act up in the normal position abut i found out that a full load of fuel helped..also a speed of 75 to 80 MPH helped a lot too.
After using about 3 gallons of fuel at 60 MPH it would start to flutter and stave so i figured might as well crank it up and stop for fuel every 110 miles....
Thanks Kevin

Hey Kevin, If you're interested, you're welcome to join me and the local CMA chapter for breakfast tomorrow (Saturday) at Shifters Restaurant at the RoadKing Travel Centre (Truck Stop). We start trickling in around 9am and hang out until about 11:30, but it's a casual come and go as you please event. We use the private room at the back of the restaurant. A couple of us have red & black 2000 Tourers, but mine is the only one with round tail lights on the saddlebags. If I'm not there yet, introduce yourselves and you'll be made welcome, and I'll be along shortly. Take the Paigan Trail East / Barlow Trail South Exit 251 off of Deerfoot Trail, then south on Barlow Trail. The RoadKing is on your right. If you're anxious to hit the road, I'll understand. Kevin

Kevin, Thanks for the offer but I forgot to mention that we made it to Banff yesteday afternoon about 4PM.
Today we're heading up to see Lake Louise, Ride the Ice Field Parkway and then onto Jasper. The really fun part of the trip has started...it's only 44 F right now so we'll wait for some warming before today's ride.
