With verified temp gage accuracy, the valk is running 240* at 75mph and ambient temp of 97* when running for 20 minutes. Ok, what do I look for ? I'm sure there are a number of things. No high temp light came on,and  my VTX only runs 205 with the same specs. Please tell me all the possibilities.
Thanks,

is that coolant temp or head temp? if its your coolant temp you are done for  more your rad is done for.
if its head temp that sounds about right if your sitting still

does the fan kick on?

and your vtx has cooling fins too

I have the same temp gage on my 1800 VTX and they both gages read the same in the boiling water check . The VTX reads 35* cooler with the same external factors while running

Doc,  that is what mine runs at, 240 deg F,  running steady at a high speed.  Normal.  If it looks too high, the fix is easy.  Throw the temp stick away!  LOL

I have the same oil temp stick and haven't seen more than 220 when pulling a trailer at 70 mph. Most of the time it runs 195-208 depending on ambient temps and speeds driven.

Junior good call on oil temp and that's about right. Oil temp can run anywhere from 210 up to 250 and 220 to 230 is just about ideal. There are alot of contributing factors how hard are you running is there a head wind, windshield or not. Not really much you can do and certainly nothing to worry about. Well you can do one thing put on a oil cooler.

fstsix, where did you get your oil cooler and did you have to modify it to fit the Valk?

You could call Summit racing they had this cooler, i bought this back in 02, they had everything including # 8 braided lines, I had the O ring machined off but was not necessary, just make a gasket, and  use # 3506 car oil filter, small and clears fender. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/PRM-189/?rtype=10 http://www.bmracing.com/PRODUCTS/Polished-Transmission-Cooler/Polished-Aluminum-Transmission-SuperCooler-7-500-BTU-11x4-1-2x1-1-2#
