Maybe it's me, and only me, but I see less and less Valkyrie stuff and more and more political postings on the General Board. My inclination is to stay off the board (to the joy of many) and just stay in the Tech forum.  But I truly do want to see what is going on in the Valkyrie nation and hate to see valid subjects pushed off the front page by the politics.

Just interested in seeing if I am in the minority or majority on this subject.

Some of us have become good friends...not just Valk riders. If Bobbo and I want to discuss who invented the internet (or Steamer wants to know if that girdle makes his butt look big) we will discuss it as friends! !  I think it should be Re-named "The New and Old friends community board" ! But General board is easier to type!  Cheesy

I just skip over the political, religious, etc. stuff. If others on here want to "discuss" politics on the forum, that's fine by me. I prefer to have face-to-face (or CB-to-CB) discussions myself.

It's working fine as it is.  If you don't like the post or poster, don't open it or respond. They'll get the message. Cool

Of course the only problem is that when you respond, motorcycle related interesting posts scroll of the page.

So would say this is a Valkyrie post or a Political post?  PS.....all you have to do is reply to one of those "valid subjects" to bump it to the top.

It's not compulsory to open, read or respond to any post. If you don't like a particular thread or poster, don't read what they post. I've seen this come on go on other forums as well. The 10% who seem to post or respond to 80% of all the threads tend to take on a type of ownership of the board. It doesn't take long to see what the prolific posters point of view is and you can either follow their posts or ignore them.

Now don't get me wrong, I won't read or follow any thread that goes over 3 pages because they don't stay on topic very well. I also won't read or follow anyones posting I find, from previous readings, to be offensive in any way.

Discussion of politics is by nature polarizing and on a board such as this can be very detrimental. I've seen it destroy another similar forum.

I avoid those topics, and since the General Board seems to be filling up with them, I avoid it as well.

I look at it as I am riding, if there is too much traffic, I look for other roads to ride...Political and Religious post to me are the Super Slabs of the board...sometimes you have to take them...but mostly I look for the twisties.

When i enter one of those super slabs, I carry a spoon...just to stir the pot...for me it is fun...

relax and enjoy the ride....it is free and you can get off anytime...

Rainmaker, at least your post wasnt as whiney as some in the past.....but everytime someone brings up what should be on the board and what shouldnt, there is a widely mixed bag of opinions just like political views, and someone always comes up with the right answer...........Dont read what you dont like, post on what you do and it keeps it at the top.......no whining, respect the "other opinion" and that doesnt mean you have to agree, grow some thicker skin if you get bent too easily and if all else fails, go for a ride and then tell us about it...that fixes the whole problem!

Chris, I had spoken with other members of the VRCC and mine is not an isolated view of the board.  There are more Youtube links than motorcycle web links.  It's hard to just watch and let something that was very good become diluted into mediocrity.  But the comments indicate that's what I'm supposed to do.

Dissent should not be considered "whiney".  But I guess that this post will be considered whiney, too.

My point in the poll was to find out if I was in the minority or majority on viewing our general board as too political.  What I've learned so far is that I may be in the "silent" majority.  I also know that there will be no changes.

I always have the option of participating in or avoiding the general board.

Thanks for all who are voting.

Well....I think you have to seperate counting replies to a post from number of posts in general.  See if you skip a post because you dont care for the material, you skip ALL the replies as well.  As far as number of posts (regarless of length) the non Valk (or non bike) posts are well outnumbered by motorcycle and/or Valkyrie related.  On page 1 right now (or a few minutes ago when I counted) there were 19 posts.  12 valk or m/c related and 5 not.  and youres which I didnt assign a category and one repeated post.  Clearly M/C related won.

I then went to  a random page at the end of June and found 25 posts on one page and 17 were bike/valk related with 8 not bike related.

For what it costs.......for what you get.......for the choices you have.......YOU CANT BEAT THIS PLACE.

I LOVE you guys...  angel

We're all more than bikes and Valks.  We're 3 dimensional (or more) people, with interests outside of our beloved Valks.

I for one, would come here A LOT less if I was restricted to discussions that were strictly MC related.  Everyone is free to do as they choose, as are the administrators of this message board.  Their sandbox, their rules.  I'll follow them either way they go.

I agree. I am on MANY other forums, having MANY other interests. And all of them have a SEPARATE forum, sometimes called "The Lounge", or "Off Topic", or "The Danger Zone", JUST for political/religious/emotional postings. Anything goes, in those forums, and it usually does. And, if you don't want to read that type of posting, you won't be exposed to it, unless you specifically go to that forum.

I could very easily put a title to a thread, that would draw 98% of the readers, and say whatever I want, so the "just don't read it" doesn't hold much water. As example, right now, on page one, is the thread "Biker Chick". I'm sure a vast majority clicked on it!

I think it would be very easy, and very wise to make an "anything goes" forum. As you all know, I very seldom back away from a political fight. but even I have my limits, and stop posting when I feel the only avenue left is insulting some &*^^&$%#!!   Grin

Oh ya....I can see you when you clicked on the biker chick post and found a nice story of some young ladies getting a ride on a motorcycle........ya, that can be a little unnerving......wheres the truth in advertizing?  (ok...that was a joke)

But, my point is, ok...you click on something because you liked the subject, found out it has words in it you dont like......how many times do you read/reread and get offended over and over before you realize you dont have to open that particular post?  I dont think we need a whole different forum because some people go the way of the curious cat and then get offended

It just helps those that DON'T want to read it, even the very first one!! I would say you'd have to group the Yes - it's full of rants but I still read it. with the Yes - and it's so full of rants I don't read it much., which seem to be running 64%. That's two-thirds, unless you are republican, and then it's 100% if you agree, 0% if you don't....

That's a joke...well, not really...

No, I'm saying it's very simple to stop virtually ALL discussion on this subject, by having a separate forum, with unlimited posting. And it's quite apparent that there are a lot of people who ARE offended, at least occasionally by some of the postings, and some just aggravated. And if it's such a simple thing, to respect THOSE people, perhaps, just PERHAPS, it might be the best thing to accommodate those people as well.

I also feel that it is pretty darn selfish, to INSIST that those people, be exposed to things, that go against their grain, when it's so easily avoided. It ain't rocket surgery, as the saying goes. I probably wouldn't feel the same, if it was difficult to do, but it just ain't! I guess I feel that it has come to a point that it's "hey, you don't like it, get your OWN forum!!", when it's so easy to say "hey, how can we make everyone feel comfortable?".

But then...

IMHO: The bottom line here is thet we're family on this board and family don't always agree. The general board is just that, "General". Meaning that within certain limits of decency, "anything goes".

If you or anyone else wants to limit their discussions only to mc's that is what the tech board is reserved for.

Sometimes I let myself get drawn into one of those political rants but most of the time I just ignore them, it's much easier to do and doesn't affect my Blood Pressure near as much.

As for the people who are constantly being "offended" on this board, if you ask me their so called "offense" is just their "excuse" for "stirring the pot".

Again that's just my oppinion and it and .50 cents will buy you........... well not much anymore.

I’ve got to say something I hate to say. After we changed formats I looked around a lot for another board and joined several. However I came back to mostly this one.

Why do I still like this one better? Because the other ones all seem to compartmentalize discussions to the point that it’s too big a “pain in the ass” to use them. I’m on several firearms, hunting and reloading boards and they are the same way. I look at them once a day to see if there is any new technical stuff I can learn and then I close em up just as I do the VRCC tech board.

What I want to do here is quickly look at one page and see all posts that have been made. I read the one’s that interest me and then move on. Some I read because of the topic, some I read because of who posted them. The more crap I have to click on to do so the less likely I am to bother with the board at all. And the more we compartmentalize our site the more crap I would have to click on.

With our current situation neither I nor anyone else has to read anything they don’t want to read but we have the opportunity to read everyone’s posts without having to do too much searching for them.

We already have a valks only board, it’s called the Tech Board. It’s a great place to get a problem solved or to help solve one but once that’s done it’s boring and quickly closed. Seems to me what we’re talking about in this thread is making this board just as boring. That’s a sure way to turn it into a “ghost board” in my opinion.

I’m secure enough in my own beliefs that I don’t feel threatened by seeing that someone else has posted theirs and I usually read it and enjoy it whether I agree on not. I’ve also noticed that the posts you’re talking about frequently have the most hits. But, would we bother to read them if we made it more difficult to do so? Many of us wouldn’t. I don’t have the luxury many do of surfing the board at work. I take the time away from my personal life to do so. As a matter of fact in many ways this board is part of my personal life. I’m proud to say that many of the people here are my friends. Friends that I discuss Valks with on the Tech Board. And Valks and life with here.

Would we have one board for Valks (tech board), and another one for Rants as you call them. Then another one for birthdays, another one for grand-kids, another one for ride reports, another one for tires, another one for prayer requests, another one for firearms, another one for weather and on and on so we could make sure no one ever had to see a topic they didn’t like?

Sorry, perhaps this has turned into one of those “rants” but I love this board because it has the feel of a “community”, a very free community where we can discuss what we want and that’s how I like it.
