RJ: Are you sure they won't fit. He said a 1500 Wing. I thought the block and heads are the same.

1. 97 and later wing and valk engine trans have the same diameter shafts except for the different gear ratios. wing engine was upgraded to valk standards in '97. for a '92 no different shafts.
that yr wing is known for trans problems. motorcycle consumer news gave details and fix. I have to dig up the issue.

2. mounting points and block should be the same, but I'm no expert

3. it should, again it depends on my answer to #2

so RJ could be right for 2 and 3

"Some important but invisible changes inside the engine were carried out too. The clutch was stronger and some of the components from the Valkyrie engine (main bearings, piston & ring sets, valve springs, con-rod bolts) were now shared with the Goldwing. The Valkyrie final drive was fitted to the Goldwing as well, as was much of the gearbox which gave marginally cleaner and smoother shifting. Not many folks noticed the difference, myself included and I happily rode my new '97 SE for three years oblivious to the differences until I started doing a bit of research on the different model changes."

That's something I don't understand!

How do you determine that the transmission is "going"

Normal consideration would be the transmission is either working or not working.

For a busted transmission the cheapest route would be to replace the broken parts.

There ought to be a few busted up motors around that match.

My experience with Honda is that hardly nothing crosses over to allow for exchange of parts and usually a whole motor change-out is the best option when contemplating some changes.

agree with RD.
what is going wrong? only known problems where the shifting forks before '94.

Gearboxes are quite reliable although the gearchange can be clunky, especially the 3rd-4th change, almost unforgivable on a machine that costs as much as a nice sized car. If the 1500 you are testing hops out of 4th gear, don't automatically assume the problem is only a dodgy selector. There were improvements in 1994.

MCN june 2005

" '88 thru '94 models 4th and 5th wear out around 100k. '95 and newer have upgraded gears.
shift forks wear out all models, from riders habit of resting toe on shift lever while riding.
other experts warn the use of heel-toe shifters are also responsible for shift fork damage. heal puts much more force on the shifter than toe would."
