The Dragon is a mythical beast, large, powerful, and beautiful.

We see a correlation between the mythical Dragon and the Valkyrie.

If you start trying to associate any thing else the dragon just fits, Unicorn, Minotaur, Ogre, Troll, Ox,?  The list could go on but, it seems that with the bulk, nimbleness, power, and smoke rising from the tire the DRAGON just seems to fit.  Also some people think dragons have some thing to do with the Valkyries.

Back on Sept. 1, 1996, the first internet site dedicated to the Honda Valkyrie, "The Valkyries' Lair,"  was launched.  The site, built by Craig Buhl, contained the tag line, "For Those Who Ride the Dragon."  Craig referred to the Valkyrie as the Dragon because of the definition of a dragon:

"*Dragon (n.)  A legendary fire breathing beast of great size; renowned for its immense power and ability to fly."

The moniker caught on and we continue riding dragons to this day.

Thanks. Not only is that a great explanation, but it actually makes you feel special to be able to be one of the few to ride one!

The "Wayback Machine" has Dec 4, 2000 as the last page update:

If you scroll down, it has a couple of statements from Craig about not having time to continue the site.

I lost most of the good pics in a hard drive crash, but there are still quite a few floating around the internet.

Too bad you didn't get to see her in person; pics really don't do her justice.
Here's a closer shot from Tim Skelton's site... this was at Bakersfield Bash '01

And a shot of her rear end from Laughlin River Run '02
