Got her torn down today & I have mixed results.
The good, new Avon tire is mounted, new dampers installed, new flange & rear rotor on & ready to go. 103,000 miles & the OE drive flange looks real good. I will go back with the new one just because I have it but at least I have a good spare for the other 2 Valks. 100K on the left, new on the right.

Matching splines in the final drive look good too.

I have wondered why a small weeping leak had popped up on the mating surface of the final drive & driveshaft tube over the last couple of years.

It may stem from the lube hole from the final drive to the pinion cup being plugged. That & this ugliness......

Splines badly worn & LOTS of powdery rust. Yuck!
Haven't checked the U-joint yet but it will be replaced anyways!
Looking kinda sad don't it? Sad

The rear rotor was SHOT! Looked like the Grand Canyon on both sides. Shocked

Anyhow I guess it will be out of comission for a few days while I gather up the parts. :'(
Anybody have a nice spare driveshaft & pinion cup??  Cheesy

  Dan
Told us about those weep holes about two years ago.
Seems we need to look at the when we do an inspection
of the rear each time.  It will not take that much longer.
It looks like the lube could not get through the holes and
had to go somewhere.  Clean those holes.

I would NOT use the new drive.  The old is in very good shape, and the two sets of teeth are now mated to each other perfectly.  There will be more wear with the new, as it mates to the worn rear end teeth.  Just lube the old good, and keep the new for a spare.

My drive shaft looked like that too.  Replace with new.  New Pinion cup too.

+1 on NOT changing the flange.  Theres nothing wrong with the old one and its better to geep worn in teeth together!!!!

Thanks for the advice guys!
Will do on re-using the OE drive flange.
Just ordered a 29K 1997 Valk used driveshaft from Pinwall & a new drive cup & every seal I could possibly need from HDL.
Now I just have to wait for parts.  :'(
I hate seeing the old girl up on the lift for an extended period of time, but when I get done with her everything in the driveline will be upgraded. Only the clutch, ring & pinion will be untouched. At least I can say she made it to right at 100K before I did any major component changes!  cooldude

I had the drive shaft/pinion cup failure happen a few weeks back.  Full of iron oxide powder just like the picture and teeth gone.  The post mortum showed that the oil seal that is installed in the pinion bearing keeper had moved and blocked the holes in the pinion cup from letting lube in.  When I reassembled I made absolutely certain the seal was installed properly.
