We are planning a trip to Milwaukee, this is my 1st mapping, can anyone suggest a better route or add to...we will not be in a hurry...maybe 7 days to get there...we like scenic roads, back roads, very little Interstates, we want to see the good o' USA.

I would head up to Paris Tx, then to Idabel, OK. Ride north to Talihina then cross the Talimena skyline drive to Mena. North from there and ride Arkansas rather then Ok.

Like Raymond said enjoy the Arkansas hills rather than the Ok plains. 59 north to Texarkana and then meander north on state roads to St. Louis. cooldude

I think, if you are heading north, and want the scenic route, you have to make a stop at Prarie Du Chein, Iowa, and then take the state roads through Wisconsin to Milwaukee.  I can't remember the highway number (help here Blackdog), but I know it runs along a river, and passes through Salk City, Wisconsin.  It is an absolutely beautiful route.

Check out this site for motorcycle routes by state.

http://www.motorcycleroads.us/

You can pick your routes state by state.

Ha, I just took my own advice and looked at the Wisconsin map.  It is SR60.

Like some previous post, steer a more easterly course especially up thru Arkansaw for twister and more scenic roads.

Also make a wide berth around metro areas unless you like fighting traffic and congestion.

Just make sure you roll through southwestern WI-- best riding in much of the country and all roads are paved.

Also, if you shift your ride to hit SW WI, you can hit the National Motorcycle Museum in Anamosa, IA. Good stuff.

My mapping skilld are not real good...we will be taking US59 up to Oklahoma-Arkansas border...not sure if we'll ride thru Boken Bow in OK or just up the western side of Arkansas and then ride to the east and catch the mountains. In Missouri we want to catch St. Louis to Highland, Il to eat foot-high pie at the Blue Springs Cafe. This is where we are not sure...once before we rode the western side of Il along the Mississippi and into Missouri...back and forth..loved it..but are there other great roads in Il and Missouri.. then Iowa...Minnesota...Wisconsin...then we get to map our way back home...we want to stop in Kansas and meet up with the people there and go eat at the Carriage house in Yoder, Ks...so one way up and another home...

This trip will take place the end of Sept.
