I believe I posted about this before, but I couldn't find it...so here it is again.

I am thinking of doing the "Race the Sun" Ride in June.

The deal is you start at the Louisiana/Texas border at Orange at daybreak (this year on Saturday June 20) and as soon as legal daybreak you head west ASAP.  The goal is to get to New Mexico before legal sunset.

About 850 miles in about 14 hours.

I am thinking of maybe starting a bit early about 150 miles away, be at Orange at daybreak, ride to El Paso and get an Iron Butt 1000 in, too.  Get the dark riding done first thing while still fresh.

Anybody have any interest?

I am considering asking my ex-Victory club if they want to ride, too.  let them see some real bikes, lol.

I'm interested.  I'll see if I'm in town.

I just checked.  Starting in Conroe, going thru Houston then to Orange ads just enough mileage to make 1000 miles for the total one-way trip to El Paso.

Doesn't the ride have to be officially sanctioned by the Iron Butt Association to be considered for the honor of an Iron Butt ride?  If this one is officially sanctioned, I'm interested also. Doc

I did not think so.  I just thought there had to be certain documentation, times, mileage, etc.  I will try to look into that.

Here are the rules for the Saddle Sore 1000.  This ought to work.

Yeah, there's no official sanctioning.  Just documentation (usually in the form of time-stamped gas station receipts) to make it official, and you have to have a 1000 under your belt before you can take on a longer one.

You also need to go to their website to get their witness forms and trip log sheets.  You need to have the start and end witnessed, and the witness sign your forms.  (Gas station attendant will do for end.  Start should be someone you know.  Witnesses cannot be on the ride with you.  If you ride two up, you'll need a witness form for the passenger as well).

Get gas station receipts with date and time stamps at EVERY stop.  If the pump doesn't have time/date stamp, go inside and get a receipt anyway.   This is where the bigger stations come in handy.
