Hi, I just read where a guy put a 6 degree timing kit in and a K&N air system. Can you please tell me what and how  the timing kit would help and how much extra HP I would gain with it?

Thanks

The advance wheels give additonal "grunt" at the low rpms and take it from the high ones. No free lunch there.

My feel on the k&n is that the OEM filter is pretty good, and just adding a K&N without playing with the carbs is not going to get you anything. If you're willing to fine tune the carbs with the K&N I feel you can get you some. Maybe the carb guru's can chime in here.

Back to the timing mod...there is an ECT mod in the shoptalk ( http://www.valkyrieriders.com/shoptalk/ ) that can get you the "grunt" at low rpm's and be "turned off" at higher ones so it doesn't cost you on the top end. Also, the interstate ICM has different curves than the standard and folks have said it helps out on a standard/tourer.

It does make a difference in the low and higher end its just that the Valks dont like allot of upper rpm advance so you wont see as much gain and may limit your top end but its a nice seat of the pants improvement.

I'm not aware of any ' timing kit' .. There are after market trigger wheels in 4 or 6 degree base advance configurations ..This requires the removal of the right belt and original trigger.. The 6 degree wheel is generally considered to be used on STD/tour models while the 4 degree wheel is for I/S due the I/S ICM advance curve difference.. Some fellas have had to use premium grade fuel when installing these  wheels[generally the 6] and others have not..Some have complained of hard cold starting and a high pitched vibration.. Some fellas have also ended up with some right side valve damage from improper installation.. Personally I think 4 degrees is more than enough in any application..  You can also take a file and  'adjust ' your trigger..
