You know it seems just a few years back, maybe 3-5 years ago, the Valks seem very expensive and I never bought one. Now I've been on flea bay and most seem very cheap. I seen a 98 0r 99 Std. with 4,000 miles for around $5000.00 and he never sold it and reposted!! I'm talking showroom! It's somewhere in Ohio. If anything, I thought they would become collectors items. I very seldom see one around town. There's not another bike that comes close to the way it looks with the 6 cyl. and all the chrome. It can turn some heads and people can see that is NOT a HD look alike!! So why the depreciation, or is it just me??

A 98 standard sold new for around $10k. After 12 years of depreciation the $5k is about right I suppose. Although I wouldnt sell mine for $5k....no way!

I think it really depends on the area and the seller situation. The Tourer I have now was on CL in Utah and I watched it from Alaska for about a month. He was asking $7,500 with 14k miles. Completely stock bike in excellent condition. Sent him an email if he still had it I'd be interested.
Month later I buy it for $6,000. I have bought standards cheaper, and I have had some guys that are so high it is nuts. There is a Interstate on VOA board with 29k and they are around $7,500. I thought about offering them $6,000, but keep coming back that I can only ride 1 of them. Frankly the Interstate I am sort of unimpressed with the looks. The standard and tourer is a different matter.
I have a buddy with 97 standard with 10K on it. Red and white. I thought about making him a offer but I think it would only be $4,000.

The accessories on my Valkyrie probably have more value than the bike by itself. As with anything else some people bought Valks and just didn't ride them much and after watching them sit finally decide to sell.

Honda shops routinely tell customers that they don't work on bikes 10 years old or older. So some people consider them devalued because they cannot keep them maintained.

some people think when they sell a bike that the accessories have some value. they'd be wrong. so they ask crazy prices because they put $4-7000 in extras on them. later they learn that they are worth squat except to the person than put them on. OH! and some insurance companies will still give you some value if the bike is wrecked also....

Not around here they don't. I've never seen a Honda shop in this area turn down a paying customer. -Scott

I agree with your observation XGuy. Seems like about a year or 2 ago the price of Valks was up & climbing. I think with the economic conditions we are experiencing now motorcycle values regardless of make are declining. They are not must have items & the market is glutted with nice used bikes of all makes. I bought the '99 we have a few months ago for a ridiculous low price with visions of flipping it after a bit of fix up work, but all I can get are tire kickers & stupidly low offers. So I will just keep it, continue to upgrade it & RIDE it! I'm sure that after most of this economic funk we are in passes, quality unique motorcycles like the Valk will see the values rise again.

Ahhh, yeaaaa.... especially Valks with lots of accessories since they (the accessories) now seem to be more valuable than they were new ..... so it seems. And yes, if I sell a bike with accessories, I would hope that the person buying the bike would want it with the accessories and appreciate the value of it with the accessories. If the accessories don't hold value to them... then they should buy a stripped down bike and go find, buy and install the accessories themselves. Or I could just as easily take em off and sell them, then reduce the price of the bike based on what I got for the accessories and the actual or estimated labor to do so..... But if someone HAS to sell, they should take what they can if the need for money is greater than the want of the bike and accessories.

I noticed a significant drop in prices in the last 8 mos. I picked my Tourer up for $5600 with 17K on the clock which was a great price in Dec. But I am seeing a few locally close to that price now.
The economy is putting the hurt on prices right now.
