Radiator hose

I was just on the idiot light thread and it came to mind.
Does anyone have a magic way of taking the top hose off, without distroying the hose or the radiator. When I went to put a sensor on the engine for my temp gauge and had to pull the radiator it was a night mare for me. Any good methods out there, the easier the better.
